A local shop has this gun that I've been looking at but I can't seem to find any information about a 101 Supergrade.

It's a 101 Supergrade XTR Lightweight with fixed chokes (28" barrels ,Full and Mod.), 2 3/4" and silver receiver and trigger guard.

It's about 95% with a pachmayer pad and prince of wales grip.

I saw an ad on another one of these and it said : Supergrade same as Pigeon grade. Is that correct.

Anyway the price on this is about $1850

Anyone have any information about these?

Not a lot of info on them but that sounds a little high to me.... especially when you can get a regular 101 in good shape for 800 to 900 around here with no problems..

I'd check on line and check the Blue Book.

No way that I would pay 1850 for a 101 with fixed chokes, but that's just me

30th Ed Blue Book (not the latest) shows the Win 101 XTR, 95%, at %1,800 for 12 ga, $2,000 for 20 ga., $2,900 for 28 ga. std. frame ad $3,800 for baby frame and $2,925 for .410.

You didn't give gauge, so I listed them all.

I would say $1850 would not be outrageous, depending on the quality of the wood and gauge. The lightweight 101s usually go at a premium over the standard/XTRs. The fixed chokes can make a lightweight gun balance better between the hands.

This gun is a 12 guage...

It's similar to the 20 guage in the link above.

Ser. # is K55XXXXE so I assume it was made after 1971.

Only thing is this gun doesn't say Super Grade on the bottom of the receiver. I believe it has Super Grade on the rib near the receiver.

Yeah, the fixed chokes at Full and Mod. isn't really a plus with me but it sure seems to fit and point good. It's around 95%...pretty minty.

I have the 29th edition blue book but can't seem to pinpoint that particular one.

Wish there was a "Rule Book" for the 101's.

A friend has one of the XTR lightweight field grades with 27" barrels and winchokes.
It's a pleasure to shoot (12 ga.) and I see them (from time to time) and cheaper than the Super Grade I'm looking at..

On the older 101's:

I have more than 15 various including double rifles which are called "Grand Europeans"
On the O/U shotguns, Diamondgrade has in the serial # the prefix "D"
The Pigeongrades prefix with "PK"
The blued standard grade has a "K"(typicallY).
There was a "Super Pigeon" which was blued with gold ducks and dog inlaid on the frame side panels. I have never seen a "supergrade" designation, but I have not seen them all.

If new, with all including the luggage case $1,800 is reasonable.

Do a search on the "classifieds", a gent has a very nice blue 101.

Look at the gun again, I don't know what a POW grip is, but these are 101 pigeon grade guns in 20 and 12 gauge and they don't have Pachmayer pads. They are also vented between the barrels. They are considered Pigeon Grade Featherweight XTR. These also don't have choke tubes, but that is a joke anyway. If you can't hit anything with Mod. or IC chokes, different tubes won't help...

POW, or Prince of Wales grip is a subtle and not so pronounced round knob. Early Browning Supers had this type grip and they also offered the more pronounced round knob.

Here is a photo of the Charles Askins Sr. Superposed and a Pigeon Grade Superposed. The Askins gun has more of a POW styled pistol grip, a less pronounced ball and shallower grip. The Pigeon, (top photo) has more of the std., pronounced round knob with slightly more pistol grip curvature.

A "Lightweight" should have pistol grip stock, the "Featherweight" models had the straight stocks. I appreciate the information on the prefixs. I will mention that the American Flyer guns have the "PK" prefix in the serial numbers, so perhaps some limited edition models shared the same prefix with the Pigeon Grade guns. Interesting to note that the "Super Grade" gun does not have the "PK" prefix.

Supers are nice, one of the least expensive very high quality guns on the market.
