Just wanted to share some pics of my first attempt of building a shooting house. I got the plans from a link off the TN Deer talk forum. I made some slight changes to it, like putting tin over the corners instead of wood, letting the windows open down instead of up and putting up some "gutters" above the windows. Still not done with it, got some minor things I want to do to it.

Real nice, but I'd change the window setup.

You've got to leave the windows open to hunt. I'd put in some glass windows that way you can leave the windows closed. A shooting house you can close up and a little buddy heater makes things mighty comfy. Closed windows help control your scent a lot better also.

Have to agree with Crow Hunter. I have a shooting house with flip up Plexi-glass windows and it sure makes it nice to be able to leave them closed while hunting to keep out the wind.

good job.i had thought about getting one AA was building.how much in material do you have in it?

Around $700, all the lumber is treated. That price includes everything(nails, screws, hinges and paint) but the shingles and tin.

im considering one to put on our morgan county lease

I like it too....and these are great for taking kids....they can't/won't be still and the house hides the movement....

Hey, I like it , very much like one I sat in this past Jan. in AL, and mine had drop windows with a propane heater.

Unfortunaly the rut in AL was raining, tornados and warm.

Can't wait till next year.

If I was going to shoot a house, I'd shoot one somebody else built..........

that is a great shooting house. trying to get one done myself. almost finished except the windows. would like to use plexiglass can anyone show me how to make them slide up and down. thanks

Very nice, ought to keep one very comfy waiting for the big buck.
For those looking to build the same do take note. Insure that it can be MOVED and not a fixed structure. Such as this one that is on skids and has chains so it can be moved. Once you sink poles in place and concrete them in it MAY become a permanent structure which in SOME states is illegal to shoot from. I say this because I know of some folks who have been pinched by the DNR because they shot deer from a loft of an old abandoned barn that was considered permanent by an anal CO. Because of this CO getting his way with this situation many deer blinds on private land were scrutinized.
Check your game laws and township/county ordinances before hand. In some places you may need a build permit and end up getting taxed on it. Times are tough and governments local,county and state are looking to dot "i's" and cross "t's"and get all the money they can.

Put it on an old hay wagon gear and ya can put it wherever it needs to be. One of my farmboy cousins did that last year and it worked out well for his father in law.

4x8 "house", shortened the reach on the wagon gear to accomodate the length. Plenty of roof overhang, so the rain doesn't interfere with shootin' out of the windows. They put it along the edge of a patch of woods that overlooks a creek bottom where deer tend to scoot about.

Best part, can hook the Farmall diesel to it and put the thing elsewheres, should the need arise. It was an old beat up wagon gear that wasn't being used. After deer season he hauls the shed back to the farm, pulls the wheels off'n the Shed de Kill and puts 'em back on an actual hay wagon.

I've seen the Amish do that. Looked like and interesting rig being pulled by a Belgian Draft Horse.

Closed-in a small box trailer at my place, to use in foul weather.

My windows slide down inside. Only keep 'em closed if the rain is coming in. Can let the windows down very easily, deer don't seem to notice. So far. ;O)

Nope. Fairly easy to do. Used some old wooden window sash, which are wooden frames about 1.25" thick. Fastened a piece of 2x4 next to each opening (vertically), wide enough apart for the old sash to move up/down in, then a strip of plywood fastened on the face of each 2x4, to hang in over the edge of the 2x4s enough to keep the sash in place.

If one had enough "room", could do the same thing horizontially to let 'em slide to one side, instead.

Very nice. I have had two of those built almost the same since 2002. They come in very handy. Both of mine are stationary, and I think another portable one would be nice. My smallest one is 6 x 8. My larger one is 8 x 12 and also has my 300yd range in front if it. It also has two "benches" built in for shooting. One difference I did notice...One of mine is painted "John Deere green", the other is painted a sand color with some mis-mixed paint I bought on sale. The green one sometimes gets hot in the winter time if the sun is shining. I've had to open the door to get a breeze when it's in the 40's outside. The green really holds the heat from the sun.

Very nice. I have one similar that I put up on cinder blocks.
My windows swing up and I put little rain gutters above them.
I do suggest some burlap curtains to break up your outline.
I hang mine on wires top and bottom to slide the pieces for best cover and hiding.


Wish I had one just like yours. It would take me several days to build one that nice.
