There is one in the local gunshop. My credit card is itching for it but what does the group think? $ is 650. 26" barrel, iron sight stock, and not a closet queen.

If I spring for it, I am going to put a peep sight on it and use it as an express rifle with 200 gr bullets at about 2850 +/-.

Thoughts.

Sounds like a plan. A friend had a 721 in 300 H&H many years ago. That rifle caused me to search for my own 300.

I'd not hesitate, 300 H&H just spews class... and a 200 at 2850 USUALLY doesn't bounce off schit...

.300 H&H and .264 WM are hard to find in the 721's. I've seen more than one 721 in .00 H&H that was rechambered to .300 Wtby. Get it you can never have too many rifles.

I bought one a few years ago in 300 H&H just because you don't see nice original specimens anymore and I'd had good luck with other chamberings in 721's and 722's.

If it is unaltered and in good shape and a 300 H&H is in your plans, then it is a good deal. Mine was a 99% specimen except for the original Whiteline pad which was so hard that it was no better than a metal buttplate!!! IIRC, I sold it to a guy along with a set of Lee Loader dies for $625 or $650 and he was tickled to get it!!! I love M70's but it's getting hard to find decent 300 H&H's for twice that anymore.

I gave mine away to a great friend in East Helena. I've often wondered just how good a friend he really is. grin

IMO $650.00 is about tops for a 721, but they are getting scarce. If it is clean and just used a bit I'd say grab it. wink

Also, I WOULD have the headspace checked before plunking down the zooks.

Check the chamber first, as not a few were converted to 300 Weatherby. One reason values might be rising is that unaltered 721's in 300 H&H are getting scarcer. I had one and it was smoother than any Rem 700 I've ever handled.

Ditto on that the 721/2 were the best bolt action rifles Remington has ever made.

Great rifle. My 721AC in 300 H&H w/BalVar 8. 168 TSXs @3150 5 in 1 inch all day.

(it's the top one)

There was recently a 721 in 300 H&H at Guns Unlimited in Omaha for $450(?). It was wearing an early B&L Balvar, the 2.5-4x20 style without internal windage/elevation adjustments.

I see 721s in 300H&H every now and then but not as often as I
used to. Got a pard who has two NIB 700 Classics in this caliber and refuses to part with them. I saw a 721 in 264WM
once a few years ago, didnt think anything of it until I
mentioned it to another gunhead and of course it was gone by
the time he got there.

I have a 300 H&H and love it as well, the only issue I have is the ammo. The ammo new is expensive the reload supplies are hard to get and pricy

It occurs to me that things are good when a guy can say "my kudu rifle" ... grin

I like the 721 action and it has a real button rifle barrel.

Smooth and accurate, yeah, buy it.

I know a guy that refers to his Remington 40X 222 as his
crow rifle.

A crow rifle is just dandy, but pales in comparison to being able to have a kudu rifle!

The 721 (and 722) was a real eye-opener to be as a kid. If it wasn't a Winchester Model 70, it wasn't a rifle. I shot a friends in the mid 1950's and found it to be smooth as butter and very accurate (for the time). Quality can be found in a plain-jane wrapping!

My first 300 H&H was a 721. I put it in a 700 Classic take off stock. It was an incredibly accurate rifle and took several deer and elk with it before I got a left handed 300 H&H built. A good friend ended up with the 721 and he loves it. You won't regret it and if it's like every other 721/722 I've seen it will shoot well.

281 yards off sticks feels nice, too.
