I was not asking what 22 is suitable for self defense. What feels like and triggers like the Woodsman, but a more practical round.

BTW, I think Robert Kennedy was killed with a 22.

Hey, Huntsman, do you carry your Woodsman(s) with their chambers loaded and the safety on or with the chambers empty ? E

I, too, have seen people shot in the head and survive. But I've seen so many people shot and die slowly from .22's to ever doubt their abilities. Very ugly to see what a body shot does to a BG.
.22's in handguns, and the Woodsman in particular, are really sweet guns. Very accurate and as easily to hit small targets with as I've ever used. Really sorry I sold my Sport model. E

I have no close quarters experience with tougher animals than 425 pound hogs. I have seen many of them crumble from a single 22 round. Certainly not the best, but give me a reliable 22 LR and hollow points and I feel pretty well gunned on an average.

I also know of an Arizona cowboy who shoots treed lions with his 22. He told me a story about his son experimenting with new 357 rounds. After peppering their cat with them he dispatched it with his 22. Said the 357s expanded too quickly in that case. I have hunted with this man and believe him to be truthful as he is a good ol boy completely free of the need to impress others.

I also know an AZ fellow who prefers his 22 mag lever rifle for treed bears. I cannot vouch for his statements, however.

I wish I had grandpa's Woodsman and would never change a thing on it.

I saw a huntsman today with the mag release button up on the stock (not on the butt/heel). It had replacement grips and was well worn. $759.00 asking price at a pawn shop that commonly drops 25% without asking. (in case anyone needs one)

I believe you were mistaken. Colt 3rd series model 'S' pistols, including the Huntsman, were not made with the thumb button mag release.

Sorry, E. I missed the Q earlier. Mostly carry empty chamber, waistband or vest pocket. It don't take much time to rack it. If hunting wabbits and such, with a holster, I'll go hot w/ safety.
