I couldn't bear to do that to my original stock so I sold it off to someone that would appreciate it for what it was. I just wanted a shooter model 70. I'm not regretfull but have learned and am keeping my 1956 fwt 30-06 all original.....You better hang on to that one, it sure is a beauty!! The bluing has no wear other than from the action being worked a few times. Wood has very few safe marks. JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H
