Thought you guy might enjoy a couple of pics of my Dad's Grisel 7mmRM. Dad had Pete build him a couple of rifles years ago. The .338WM was collecting dust, so Dad had Hart screw on a 25 inch #4 contour in 7mmRm. Balance is excellent and judging from barrel break in, it should be a hammer. Magnification range on the March is impressive.

Grisel Action
Hart #4
Grisel Floorplate (3 in the belly)
Stock: Not sure, probably MPI or Brown.
Tally SS Rings
March 2-25x
10 lbs as shown

Very, very nice. Do you know which action that is based upon or is it one of his manufacture? I have one of his double square bridge small rings in 280 Rem but it uses his own detachable rings. I have not seen one like your Dad's.

Tony: Grisel action. Dad was not a fan of Pete's proprietary ring/mount system, and had him mill in the Talley set up.

Cocadori: Scope from Kelblys. Weight surprised me to; but barrel and scope are not lightweights.

Interesting. Do you know the SN of the action? Mine is no 49 of the 50 made.

Tony: Wow, that's a beauty. What caliber? I'll have to check my other pics for a serial number when I get home.

Looks like SN 504. Stainless may be a different series.

I didn't know that he made them in stainless and was assuming your Dad's was hard chromed or ?? They are darn slick actions that's for sure. Mine is a 280 Rem that was put together very lean by Roger Green in 1985. His work is pretty amazing. It weighs 7 1/2# scoped.

nyrifleman,

I started looking for one after you bought yours, from Martini and Hagn's site IIRC? I didn't know about them until then.

Dad's actions are all Short Magnum actions, numbered 52, 53 and 504. Pete may have had a different SN sequence for the standard bolt face actions.

Not a Grisel action, but an 09 Argentine by Pete isn't too shabby..

That's a nice one! Can you believe it's unfired?

What's up with that?

Seems it is fairly common. I picked up a gorgeous 270 built on a pre-war M70 that the gent I bought it from inherited from his Grandfather. Neither had ever shot it. I can't figure it out either.

Tony lots of those very fine customs were built and never shot.I watched this go on a lot with rifles by Goens, Biesen,Wiebe, and others among people I knew in my area.

I think that for many, the rifles represented lifetime investments....something they saved a long time for...and they equated "beautiful" with "fragile",were afraid to damage them, so never took them hunting.

Yet they would hunt a Winchester or Ruger for years with little to no damage.... shocked

In any event, it is kind of a windfall today, because these rifles can be picked up for far less than it would cost us to build them today,as you well know! smile
