whatever you want to call them.....what do you use for catching them in a good sized river like the Missouri?

They fish where the cleaner tributaries dump into the silty Tannana. Caught several in 5 minutes while we watched. Old wooden river boat used by Tannana chief many years ago

Can't go wrong with live minnows down on the bottom or perhaps some fresh cut bait.. Good luck and take some pix!

EEL Pout! Don't need a net, they wrap around your arm! Did you get any?

Eel Pout, tails are great boiled and covered with butter. Poor man's lobster from some of the larger lakes in Minnesota. Catch them fairly often an live minnows when fishing through the ice.

They are listed as an invasive species in Flaming Gorge Reservoir. On both the Wyoming and Utah ends of the lake, there is a catch and kill law. You cannot release any live burbot, period.
They seem to like the shallower inflow end, which is Wyoming. I've never caught one.

We are still fishing them through the ice at night. We jig spoons and large soft plastics, and they smash them hard! Hooked this guy last Sunday night at 11:05, on the ice at 11:22, 43 inches, 20.4 pounds, was a brutal 6# test trial! We are bears for punishment, heading out again tonight. Ted
