Anyone ever run a 1-11" twist on a .300 Win Mag??

I plan on using a 1-11" on a .300 Win Mag hunting rifle build -only going to use 180 and 200 grain ammo, nothing heavier. I know that the 1-10" is the standard but I'm gonna give the 1-11" a try.

Pretty sure sako's standard twist for .30 cal is 1:11. Haven't heard of one not shooting heavy bullets well though **i think** Barnes recommends a 1:10 for their 180 mono metals.

I have a 1 - 11 twist in a 30-06. I don't shoot 200s, but I do shoot 180s. Shoots 5-shot groups with Nosler Partitions well enough, normally slightly sub MOA. Not too bad for Partitions.

Match Kings it shoots much better, of course, but I've only run 168s thus far.

My best shooting lightweight is a 300H&H that wears a #2 Lilja with 1-11" twist. Shoots 200gr Accubonds under .50 at 100m.

A friends 300 Ultra has a 1-11.27" Rock that routinely shoots 200gr TTSX (which are LONG!) into .50-.75 groups.

Have no fear with your choice.

Why? What do you gain with slower twist?

Karl recommended and built a 1-11 on my 300 wsm using a Brux bbl. It is 1/2"-3/4" rifle.

I would think same speed at lower pressure or more speed at same pressure. How much? I don't know.

Got a Bartlein 1-11" twist ordered - now the wait!!

Here's what I'm doing on this one:

.300 Win Mag hunting rifle

BAT HRPIC action = nitrided, spiral fluted bolt, "hunter" tolerances

Bartlein stainless 5R barrel = 1-11" twist, Krieger #5 contour, 25" finished length, Vais muzzle brake

McMillan Rem Hunter stock = sniper fill weight, 13 5/8 LOP, molded-in GAP camo

Badger M4 bottom metal, Rem mag box, spring, & milled steel follower

Jewell trigger tuned to 2#

Graphite black CeraKote

Seekins 30MM rings

Schmidt & Bender PMII 4-16x50 scope

Pretty close to the 300 mag that shot the group up top.
M700 Action blue printed by Dan Dowling
Schneider 5.5 27 inches.
Answer Brake.
McMillian HTG 14 LOP
Its got a worked over 700 trigger ...Never felt a Jewell was necessary on a hunting rifle.
4-16x50 S&B PMII in Badger rings.
Great minds think alike.

All Sako and Tikka .30 cals are 1:11, no accuracy issues there...
