Shoulders, butts and loins. Hickory smoked. Any suggestions?

I've had minimal luck with store bought rubs but have had pretty good luck with a rub called Memphis Dust. A quick google search will bring it right up with all the spices/sugars/salts needed to make about a quart jar full. Sorry I don't have a recommendation for a store bought variety.

The Sportsmans Warehouse near me used to carry some stuff called Rocky Mountain Seasoning, which was a terrific dry rub. When Sportsmans went into Chapter 11 years ago, it pared down its inventory and quit carrying the stuff, so I began ordering it off the web, directly from the manufacturer. I can't remember their exact website, but do a search for "Rocky Mountain rub" or "Rocky Mountain seasoning," and I'm sure you'll find 'em. They're located in Oregon, if memory serves. I like their rub very much...buy a small bottle and see if it's what you had in mind.

Basspro has the Plowboys and the Memphis Dust looks easy and sounds good. I think I'll give them both a go and see which one we like the best. Thanks a lot guys! I'm gonna keep dialed into your thread on BBQ'ing, Matt. You gonna show us how to make that sauce?

Well the exact recipe is a bit confidential, but here is a photo a big batch of sauce we were mixing up for a church funraiser a few years back, shows a good shot of all the ingredients.

The rubs are really easy to make. Here are three. I don't remember which one or two RobP had posted and which I found on the dubya-dubya-dubya.

Thanks for the recipes. I just got done making this one that 32 20 suggested: 3/4 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar 3/4 cup white sugar 1/2 cup paprika 1/4 cup kosher salt 1/4 cup garlic powder 2 tablespoons ground black pepper 2 tablespoons ground ginger powder 2 tablespoons onion powder 2 teaspoons rosemary powder http://www.amazingribs.com/recipes/rubs_pastes_marinades_and_brines/meatheads_memphis_dust.htmlI'm fixing to rub it on tonight for some grilling tomorrow. I'll be doing 120 lbs this weekend. Matt gave a very timely tip on his thread about coating the meat with mustard before the rub. By midnight 40 pounds of loins and butts will be in the fridge for sometime in the morning. I'm gonna get another 40 pounds of boneless shoulders tomorrow. $1.77/lb. Maybe I'll get 60.

#3 is may favorite. If you're doing a butt, brine it overnight first. Pickling salt and molasses..

Ironbender is right, they're easy to make by just throwing together the stuff you like. If you want a store-bought product, try TexJoy BBQ seasoning. Even better, get this... http://www.texjoy.com/store/p/223-Spice-Sampler-3-Pack-.aspx

Shoulders, butts and loins. Hickory smoked. Any suggestions? Since marinades and rubs have been covered, my only suggestion would be... Start them tonight. The trick to great BBQ is time.
