....love that little 7/08, pushes 120ttsx into .33 inch groups @100 and .5 @ 300yds I think this is where it's at (both the "love" and the accuracy, which note doubt follow one another). But more importantly, you do.

If you just "need" another rifle, I'd Faux Ti a 243 or 223.

You don't have a .223? Really? Why? ..well,get one! Then go and get a 6.5 Creedmoor...you're welcome! Or depending on what you have hunted so far..spend money on a hunt! Life's too short to have room in a safe,no heads on the wall or photos in the album!

Man, you guys said it like there's something wrong with that.
Smokey (ya mind?) Now I am one to talk about 'more' rifles. Of all the rifles/calibers/cartridges I have, only 2 are close together, 6.5X55 - 270 and there is a diff. there. Mailman only mentioned 3 cals - 270, 7/08, 300. The 7/08 is close to the 270 and then there is a jump to 300. My suggestion to him is get something DIFFERENT. The 7 wsm/6.5 are still in the same category. Diff, yes but too close together. IMO Maybe 6mm-243, smaller 25, or BIG. 338-375 depending upon his hunting prospects or DESIRES. To use the money for a hunt is still a good idea. To get another rifle is NOT a bad idea either.

A well loaded 6.5 x 55 or 260 with 120 gr bullets is pretty much a pocket 270! You can't go wrong with one for most game shooting.

gm - yes and in the 270 you can do more with heavier bullets. That was my point. Since he already has a 270, why get something so close?
I have a 6.5X55 and am not putting down the 6.5s.

Currently have both a 7 wsm and 7-08 (ai'd a few yrs ago). See absolutely no need to go 6.5. With either one you have the lower 48 covered. There may be a reason that 7 wsm is currently the darling of the internet - had mine since 2004 (first bolt gun I owned). Great cartridge for the out west type hunter. Prolly a little over kill for east of the Mississippi hunters, but still a great, fun cartridge.

Not much any of those rounds will do different, some reach further if you NEED really long range capability. Since I try working w/in 400 yds and most shots have typically come in half that distance, I'd be content w/one good small bore.
A new rifle would be for a different purpose - larger game, my preference would be 338 Federal if not after Grizzly, and the 338/06 or 9.3x62 if so.
Adding a mid/medium bore would be how I would 'diversify' if wanting a 2nd rifle (assuming you will hunt game larger than deer/black bear).
