Last 3 weeks have been pretty good this way. Today was no different.
Lots of Bunker, aka,Pogies, menhaden, around for bait.
We're fishing bunker chunks on the bottom where there are underwater ledges. 50 feet comes up to 20 feet where these ledges are.

15 Stripers boated this morning including a couple 30 pounders.
All lip hooked and released except for 4 that were gut hooked. So far, we have a pretty good run this year.

The Connecticut shoreline is fabulous in the warmer weather for many things. It has fishing, hunting, sailing and views.

We had a cottage there on the water and also boats. I have been out for strippers and caught the blue crabs and cooked them right on our boat.

You can sail to the islands. Fishers Island was always a favorite of ours being remote and unspoiled.

Thanks for sharing. Did my share of striper fishing before moving out West.

I mostly fly fished but i remember eels were a hot bait for stripers over 40 inches

Bucktales..looks like you had a heck of a morning!!

I don't always venture out into the sub-freezing darkness, but when I do, it is deer hunting season, and I carry a Remington. Stay hungry my friends.

I miss the water. Don't know how we found the time and energy for it. We lived aboard much of the time from June through August. By now we would be near or on Block Island and heading for the Newport area or the Vineyard.

The adventure of it all. The beating to windward. The planning. The water.

Still on the bite this morning. We traded deep water for inshore livelining in the boulders with about 6 feet of water. Felt good going back to swimming live bait. We boated a half dozen or so stripers, smaller 15-20 pounders.
Last night's cold front-high pressure messed them up a bit.
All released...

What a difference a day makes. High pressure came by Friday night, smaller fish yesterday. Same spot, outgoing tide,1 mile from shore, livelining in a rockpile in 6 feet of water.
25-30 lb. class fish today. Even broke out my 30 y.o. Sabre Stroker mini stand up rod today...

Yesterday, water was cloudy and coffee colored, today, clear as it gets in the Sound.

25 pounder. Circle hook right in the chops and released. Pretty good year so far...

Today's entry for the last day of June. It's been one heck of a month for Stripers.
We got out at first light and didn't go too far for bait. There were schools of Bunker, (pogies, menhaden, depending where you're from) as far as you can see.
You toss a weighted treble hook into the school and snag your bait as they go thru. Had about 15 baits in 10 mins.
Again, haven't seen this many schools for this long since the 70's.

Flat as anything once again and pretty hot with lack of a sea breeze. We managed a half dozen or so bass, all cookie cutter size. Those red spots are from some sort of parasite. We call em "Sea-Lice". This fish had a lot of them.
This was caught live lining a bunker. Had to get thru a lot of toothy bluefish to get to the bass today.

This is half a Bunker. A Blue cut it in half in one shot. It's best to keep fingers and toes out of the way.
