Some near new FN Mauser 98's are due to arrive in Australia soon and I'm planning a flat shooting small Antelope/Deer/Gazelle rifle useing a Lothar Walther barrel.
Does anyone own or know of the 6.5x65RWS cartridge. I assume it is a Chamois and Roebuck cartridge.
Any info appreciated.

A few friends of mine hunt with this cartridge, all with the rimmed version.
You will not find any commercial ammo but if you reload it I think this is one of the best 6,5 ever made.

Hello, RWS-munition still offers factory loads for that caliber with 127 grain bullets (BC 0.361 => 2953 fps / 2,449 ft�lbf). Only ONE load available.
It is not a popular caliber here. I would say it's a good multi-purpose rifle for stalking. According to their comments; "The 6.5x65 RWS is highly suitable for hunting in the mountains - from chamois and ibex to hunting red deer in Scotland."

I have never heard of that round and cant find it in my Cartridges of the World reference book. Google 6.5x65RWS and all will be revealed.

The 6,5 x 65 is a longer 6,5 x 57. If you load it with a 10,1 gram Sako Mega bullet (around 2700 f/s) you will get a hard hitting elk and moose round. Because of the better sectional density its perhaps better than the 270 Winchester. (Sorry!)

I have a 6.5x65 RWS. Great Cartidge. Easily bests the .270. The case is best thought of as an improved 6.5-.280 Rem. It is true that Factory loads are much more limited than say a 6.5x55 or 6.5x57. I know, I own them all. But, RWS makes its wonderful brass for the 6.5x65 and 100 cases will last a LONG time. It will easily better the 6.5-06 at lower pressures.

I have never heard of that round and cant find it in my Cartridges of the World reference book. It was released in 1988, recent by cartridge history standards. It's in my copy of the 11th edition.

Oddly, Nick Harvey listed this cartridge as one of his Top 10 favourites in an article about 5 years ago. At one stage he wrote up this cartridge plus the 265RCBS. He attributes the x65mm as being good for 3200fps with 120gr and 3000fps with 140gr. With the 127gr ConePoint seated to a length of 84mm, he gave the case 60gr of water in useable capacity. Seems like an interesting cartridge.

Con Really? That seems high and beats the 270 Win. in ballistics. How does it compare to the 6.5x68 ?

6,5x65 is loaded by RWS and the R version too. Good, well balanced cartridge, but to me no better than a good 270 Winch. Even knowing that, i'm looking for a spare barrel for my Merkel K3 to hunt mountain game, stalk roes and even on bigger game.
