For those who have one, how do you like the McMillan Game Scout stock?
I'm think of putting together a 20" #4 or #5 contoured barreled hunting rifle.
Also, I like the Remington Classic and Hunter stocks.
Which do you guys think would work the best with a #4 or #5 contour 20" barrel for hunting?

I keep thinkin of ordering one for my 223 ackley just havent dropped the hammer. Kinda curious on peoples opinion on the stock for hunting and shooting off of sticks. I have a #3 shilen in a remington classic and a #4 barrel would be the biggest I would try sticking in a classic.

Any idea what the barrel diameter of a #4 contour would be at 20"? Is there anyone else who care to share their suggestions?

If I was building for a hunting rifle, it would be a #2 contour, max #3 and sitting in a classic. If it is one I am packing a lot, it would be in a Edge compact with a #2. Since I am not shooting righty, the mtn rifle is out for me, but that would be considered as well, again #2.

I think it would make a nice huntin rig with a #4. I've kinda been thinkin about a 260 with a 22" #4(done have the barrel). I would either use the g scout or classic. Prolly go with game scout just to try somethin new?
This build would be a lil too heavy for some people due to their hunting conditions. For the hunting I mostly do it would be a dandy I think. I've stopped building all my guns to be mountain rifles. I do have a couple and that's enough for me since I only get to hunt the mountains maybe once every year or two.

It's my winter coyote gun but I'm hoping that the stock is here by November so I can paste a few deer.

God dang, seems like a Game Scout in Edge Fill with a #2 or #3 would be just about ideal for hunting. I pretty much shoot everything prone anyways.

I could see a #3 modest length fast twist somethin or another being benifecial. I'd go #4 in standard fill but our terrain and hunting style differs. Let's see tanner needs.... Difiance s/a #3 ah...let's say rock 243,260,708,308.....cut at 22 3/4" Edge fill game scout 3.5-10 with m1's Talleys or Burris sig if need be Shilen trigger How'd I do?.....grin

McMillan says the Classics will take up to and including a #5, and I've done enough to confirm there's no problem. Actually, they'll handle a Rem Varmint, but that's about the limit.....

They will handle a Varmint...barely.... I used a Classic for a Savage ML. Turned out great, but it does fill the forend. Balance would have been bad with anything besides the .50 hole in the barrel.

I run classic stocks not the game scout with #5 kriegers I have 2 rifles this way. they fill it out quite a bit though, I wonder if a 5.5 krieger would fit cut with a short shank like .750 exposed shank.
