Going to buy some Dyna Bore Coat.

On the fence regarding the Borescope. May try to get some buddies to partner with on the scope to reduce costs.

That would make a lot of sense, as you don't need it all the time. Just need it when you need it...

Yep. As I've written before, the inside of the barrel is just about the only place on a rifle we can't really see.

Bought my bore-scope close to 10 years ago and have never regretted it for a moment.

I see on their website the price is $150 higher than my midway discount price. Too late to call now, But I'll give them a ring tomorrow and see if they'll meet my printed Midway price and maybe bring it home.

Dang Physicists have me working today and I forgot to call them up, heck, going to BBQ and will be a block from their place in a couple of hours if we ever get out of here tonight...lol


I did the split deal on a Oehler 20 years ago, good idea.


Odd thing about the black patches John, I never got them before the DBC using the same solvents, and I have 2 uncoated guns that also don't get black from H-335 or Varget that I am seeing?

My advice to any serious rifle loony is to pass up just one rifle purchase and get a Hawkeye Borescope. I use mine a lot and have never regretted the purchase or the price.

Get the 90 degree eyepiece that goes with it. It is very useful.

Enjoy the Dino BBQ. What a fun joint. Always some interesting Harleys to look at this time of year, too. Not to mention some of those biker chicks that don't cover up much in the hot weather. My buddy would say, "Let's get some of that great BBQ and count some titz and nipplz". Have fun.

I just DBC'd my 243AI and cleaned after shots 10 and 19. Similar results, lots of black fouling, but followed by very little blue copper.

FWIW I experienced this with a few other Ultra Bore Coated rifles. After about 40-50 shots it became normal to only use 4-5 patches and the barrel was clean.

Yeah, I've seen the black stuff too in the first couple of cleanings after installing DBC. Dunno what it is, but always assumed it was powder fouling. It can still show up in later cleanings but not so much, and in every barrel I've treated copper fouling is MUCH reduced.

I've used it enough to know I want to keep on using it...

I wrote a note to myself on the way to dinosaur to ask John if focusing is needed, I think the fixed focus is $100 less.


Anyone else with a borescope suggest the focusing is needed? I go from 17 to 358.

I think that would be the best $100 you ever spent.

With the .17's you can't use the 90* mirror, the bore is too small. You can remove the mirror sheath attachment and look straight down the bore with the tube light. You can't get a direct view of the rifling without the 90* mirror.
