I just bought a Remington 572 Fieldmaster 22 rimfire off of gunbroker and I am curious as to the kind of accuracy I can expect from this rifle ? Especially with High Velocity Hollow points at say 25 yards to 40 yards or so as I intend to hunt Squirells with it.
I deer hunt with a Remington 7600 243 and thinking this will be a good understudy rifle as I like the pump.
I will be putting either a Leupold 4x or a Leupold 2-7x on it.

I have a Fieldmaster with an old 2-7 Redfield low pro, good gun.

Mine prefers the CCI Mini Mag ammo. I've only tried CCI MM, Wolf Match, CCI Green Tag, Federal bulk/brick, Rem Thunderbolt, and Rem Bulk in it. The CCI MM shot the best by far. It was good for ragged hole dime sized groups at 25 with that ammo on short strings of 3-5, but I'd get a few flyers on longer strings giving about quarter sized clusters. With the other loads it was quarter sized clusters to slightly over with a few wild flyers at times.

My Speedmaster is much more accurate than my Fieldmaster, it also prefers the CCI MMs to the others mentioned. I've shot some impressive groups with the SM out to 50 and it's a pile of fun on a 10" gong at 200 as well.

If I can get dime sized 3 shot groups at 25 with CCI Mini mags(I really like their performance on Squirrels) I will be very pleased .

Had one for many years, early 60's vintage. Very accurate with a wide variety of ammo to include shorts. Hog rated on boars up to 275# by field test. Gun didn't care but I never had much use for hollow points. SV ammo for the hogs.

It was the gun that corrupted me with CB Shorts one afternoon when it whacked a bunch of Muscovy ducks. Want to say 27 but my memory is a little fuzzy. Took 5 trash bags to load 'em up. One duck took 2 shots. Never put a scope on it.

My dog thought I'd lost my marbles and hid under the bed. Smart dog and mighta been right.

Had a 572 BDL since I was a kid and still have it. While I never shot it at paper, it killed every soda can and varmint I aimed it at. Love that platform for a rimfire. The pump can be fired as fast as a semi-auto with some practice. Or at least that's what I always thought.

If I was a 760 shooter that would be my training rifle. Like .257 it was a soda can, tree knot, paper plate punching, rock hitting, leaf hole making machine in another time. It's big game was Chipmunks.

I had one for a while. Didn't much case for it the way it was so I whacked a bunch off th barrel making 19" and relocated the stud for the magazine and shortened the magazine and push tube to fit. I don't remeber who talked me out of it but while I had it it was one of the best little truck guns I ever owned.
Had a little cheapie Weaver 4X .22 scope on it and was pure death on jack rabbits.

Got one from dad when I was 12 (62 now). Still have it and it is one good rifle. Shot lots of sitting bunnies through the eyeball with it back in the day. Has a cheapo Simmons scope on it now but I'm thinkin about taking it off. Open sights work just fine on it.

I had one that didn't shoot worth a hoot, but it was the aluminum receiver/sleeved barrel version. Terrible trigger, poor accuracy, even from a good bench. No experience with the standard version.

Mine is minute of squirrel head at 40/50 yards never had a scope on it. Just the same peep/ front post combo on both. And yes they do make great practice rifles for the 760 owner.

Good looking rifles. Tried the peep sights but while they fine for me on paper and in good light I need the scope for in the woods. I wish my eyesight was such that I could make them work for me as they are surely sleeker looking and lighter in weight.

Christmas of "56" Santa brought a 572. Big step up from a single shot Savage. Still shoot it and hunted squirrels with it last year. When my eyes did the 40 thing and the sights got fuzzy I put a Weaver A2.8 with a dot reticle.Deadly accurate and never a problem. Keep it clean and be sure that the takedown screw is good and tight and you won`t have any accuracy problems.

The forearm is a little thick. I also ordered it with the Maxx Guard finish over the camo. It's a lot like the coating they put on the Browning stocks. There has been a few reports on it not holding up well. If the coating on the stock doesn't hold up, I'll send it to Karnis to trim down. People complain about recoil and muzzle blast with the short barrel. You'll only notice on the bench, but this rifle is more at home on game or pounding steel off hand at 100
