Comparing loads in the Nosler #6 for the .300 Win. it lists 70 grs. of IMR-4350 @ 3130 fps. with their 180 gr. bullets. If H-4350 was substituted and worked up to this velocity would it be safe ? Also, has anybody acheived this velocity with these powders ? I normally load H-4831, H-1000, or RL-22. I have never tried a faster powder in the .300 with 180's.
Thanks,
Jim

I think you would need a 26" barrel to get close to those speeds. This from Hodgon's site.

180 GR. NOS E-TIP Hodgdon H4350 .308" 3.340" 62.1 2730 52,300 PSI 66.8 2916 62,600 PSI
180 GR. SPR MT-SP Hodgdon H4350 .308" 3.285" 63.0 2787 46,400 CUP 67.0 2918 53,100 CUP

I have been shooting the 300 Win Mag for many years, never had any success with the 4350's. The speed they list in the Nosler #6 might be attainable but for me the S.D. and E.S. were way too high and the accuracy was not there.
They did get one thing right by saying RL22 was the most accurate powder tested with 180's and H1000 with the 210-220.

To me it is a bit of a joke how they do the reloading book anyway. For example take the 6ppc they list 10 different powders, 8 of the 10 not a person on the planet would use in this cartridge and they leave out the 1 powder that 90% of people use N133.

Jim, I have used I4350 a great deal in the .300, but mostly with lighter bullets:150 or 165..I did have a good load with 180's and 4350 for the second barrel on my old 300...but at the time didn't have a cronograph...I would think 3100+ is a bit high..but that load was accurate in at least one of the barrels on my old gun...If I were starting out today, I would go with Re 22..but that is because I have a bunch of it..I have friends who like Re25...

I have found IMR4350 to be very accurate with 180s in the 300 Win, but expect about 3050 with 71-72 grains.

I haven't used a 300 Win for a few years so haven't used the new H4350 in it.

71.0g IMR 4350 was a magic load in a couple of 300's I had with the 180g Ballistic tip. Work up to that load in your rifle, it is warm.

My 300 Win Mag likes 72 gr/ IMR 4350, Fed 215M primers, WW brass. I get 3026 fps from this load in a 24" bbl. That is a max load, work up.

I was just curious. I am loading H-1000, Nosler brass, GM215m, Nosler PP for 3093 fps. and 1/2" three shot groups @100 yds. One inch at 200 yds. Get fair accuracy with the 180 Spitzer 3/4" at 100. Wish I could get the Spitzer closer to the lands like the PP, but have magazine restrictions. Guess I will stay with the H-1000 load. I was hoping to find a powder that would equal the above with less powder volume. Has anybody tried the Magnum powder ?

What was your load? Here is how mine shoots at 300 with the 180's and H-1000.

Nosler brass, Fed.GM215m primer, 81 grs. H-1000, 3.380" OAL can't give you the ogive length right now. Everything packed from a recent move. Loaded the 180 gr. Nosler Protected Point .010" off lands. The load was shot from a 25" Hart @3097 fps. over the Oheler 35. Limited to 200 yds. at my range and it shot a 1.007" three shot group@ 200. Not as good as your group ! Good shooting !

I guess I'm missing something, it looks to me like that's how your rifle does with the 178 A-max not "180's".....
