I dropped an FN barreled action off at the gunsmith with directions for him to rebarrel to 7x64 (or maybe 7x57 or .280) once the barrel comes in.
Who's played with the 7x64 Brenneke? Not much loading data out there, but appears Remington, Hornady & Winchester make factory loads.

Any info on sources of loading data would be helpful.

Use .280 Remington data (or Hornady has 7x65R data -- rimmed version). My .280 Rem and 7x64 Brenneke shoot identical loads.

Everything I've read suggests the 7x64 has a little less case capacity than the .280. How do velocities compare between your two rifles with similar powder charges? Also, wondering if .284 data may not be far off. I'll look at the Hornady manual.

I just sold a Brno,it liked the 4350's and 150 to 160's the best.It differs from most .280's in that it didn't like short bullets and high speed. But a 150NP at 2850 would do fine...

Norma lists some load data for the 7x64 Brenneke. Case capacity is right in the 284 win/280 rem range. You might try Hodgdon's site for some pretty good up to date 284 win load data.

Karnis told me via PM to consider it a .280 minus three grains case capacity.
Through the research I'm doing it is popular in Europe and Africa, which the .280 is not and in case I travel with the rifle is the reason I'm leaning toward 7x64. Also, Winchester, Remington, Federal, Hornady have produced or do produce ammo for those markets, which can be purchased in the US.

Also, wondering if .284 data may not be far off. I'll look at the Hornady manual. Same. The 7x64 (CZ 550) prefers 160's and the .280 (BDL DM) likes 140's. Tried the reverse in each and basically accuracy was all that differed. Haven't tried to jam them full so don't know what case capacity is/how it differs. I guess you know .280 data can be pushed a little due to its history, but don't extrapolate that over too much for the 7x64. The .284 data looks too hot and AI data wouldn't help either...

I had a Husqvarna in 7X64 years ago. It wasn't long before it was rechambered to 280 Remington. Never missed the '64 a minute.

I am using imr4350, in my mauser model 66, so clambered. Mine likes lighter bullets. 8.0 gram keigelspitz's killed a lot of roe deer. Gonna try some various 120 grain pills in the future and see which it prefers.

Ken Waters did a 7x64 Pet Loads article in November 1984. I'd happily make a copy and mail it to you, if interested just PM me your address. I've had two and it's pretty much a .280 Rem.

I loaded and chronographed some 140gn Accubond loads for a friends Mannlicher Schonauer 7x64. Of all the suitable powders tested RL22 produced the best velocity.
