Chip, It was a pleasure working with you. Many thanks.
Here is the letter on this 1899H.

Well, this certainly doesn't make sense to me. The picture of the rifle clearly shows a M99 with the characteristics unique to the 99H (e.g. no pads on the buttstock). Yet Callahan says it is a M1899H - in my book a very different gun.

If you look at the very early pricelists and catalogs for the 99's you'll see that they are still listed as 1899's.

Which means the 1920/1921 1899H according to the pricelist or catalog is actually what we call a 99H and NOT the original 1899H.

To prevent massive confusion everybody has always called the new models 99's.

Was there not a weight difference between the 1899H and the 99H? This one weighs a shade over 7 lbs, which should be a 99H weight, not the 1899H weight...is that about right?

Not sure about weight, though I have that info at home.

Some pics from Rick's display at the fest. Interesting that the front sight isn't a Rocky Mountain blade.

Yer right on that. According to Murray the 1899 F SRC preceeded the 99 H. Unless Murray's wrong of course wink

If anyone is looking, I have a 99 H in .303 that I am going to part with soon. It is not a museum piece nor a BB. Decent original shape with no modifications, cracks, holes, nada... All numero's match. I believe it is about a 1927 model. I am selling it as a package with a good amount of ammo. Just need to get pix and an idea of what I want for it. In the mean time, keep an eye out here as I usually post a heads up to my buds on this thread first before I do something stupid....
