I went through mucho powder dicking with seating depth etc. to try and get the 100gr TTSX to work in my .257WM. I am not talking about "settling" for 1" groups here. I wish I could get consisttant 1" groups with those bullets. No can do. I only tried RS Magnum and R-22, and refuse to believe trying another powder will magically go sub MOA.

The 110gr NAB's will go a smidge under an inch @ 3.20 COAL. I don't have any more time to fool with seating depth because I want to hunt the rifle. I will play with that later.

Certainly someone else has had the same experience? I really did not want to go to the 80gr TTSX since the NAB is fine bullet anyway.

Rifle is a Rem SPS in a McM Game Scout bedded and worked over by Robert Gradous. Factory tube, which may be the next thing that gets replaced.

I have the same rifle in a Mickey Classic (granted, bone stock outside of the handle and Zeiss 4.5-14x44 in TLWs), and it shoots the factory 80 TTSX to about an inch. I didn't have time to work up loads for it at the time, and other projects have taken priority. But I'd be pleased if mine shoots the AB into an inch or less.

I couldn't get consistently better than an inch or so with 100gr TTSXs out of mine. Accubonds shot VERY well, but I ended up going with the 80gr TTSXs. When loaded to 3700 with 7828 (mild load) they consistently shot in the .5" range and simply hammered critters.

I may give the 80's a try after hunting season. I am about out of R-22 and Magnum, and will try 7828. Could always use that for the NAB's anyway. Thanks.

7828 gave best accuracy for me with every single bullet I tried. Velocity equalled or exceeded R22 also. It doesn't make much sense, but short OALs were most accurate also. About 3.140".

80 grain TTSX is the only bullet my 257 WM wont shoot. The next bullet it doesnt like is the 100 Partition, but it still shoots around an inch. 100 TSX, 110 AB's and 100 E-tip shoot very, very well with 100 Hornandy's and 115 BT's coming close. The Accubond has become the bullet I ended up using for my hunting bullet. All liked to be seated deep in my Vanguard.

Mine shoots the 100 TTSX very well with RL22. Have to seat them deap at 3.16 though. If you don't mind a little slower velocity, try H4831. It's much more stable and consistent than RL22, imo.

For now, I'd stick with the Acubond though. It's a better hunting bullet than the TTSX is anyway.

Not a 257, but I have had a simple powder switch appear to be a a laying on of the hands. A 240 Weatherby and I went all over the place with loads, slugs, seating depth, and Reloader 22. A switch to IMR 7828 and groups of 5 instantly began settling into about 0.5 inch.

I do have a Mk V 257, run Nosler 100 grain partitions, and it does OK (like slightly over 1 moa) with Reloader 22. When I get the present stock of ammo depleted, I'm going to give 7828 a run through that one.

Hondo64d hit it on the money 7828 is your huckleberry in the 257WM. I have both a MK5 and a vanguard in the 257 WM and was happy with the way they shot then tried 7828 and got even better grouping than before with just about every bullet i'd try neither of mine will shot the 80 TTSX quite as good as the 100 TTSX. The only bullet that gives me troubles in My 257s is the 110 grain InterBond that I can't make shoot in anything.

After a lot of google searches 7828 seems very popular.

I have never loaded for a .257 Weatherby, but in quite a few cartridges on either side of it, I found the best accuracy by seating those copper bullets DEEP.

Unlike cup and core bullets, those copper slugs do NOT mind a long jump to the rifling, and in fact sometimes prefer it.

My rifle (257 wby as well) did not shoot clovers like I had hoped at 100 yards with the TTSX considering it was a full custom. BUT, I switched to R25 (try it, 73 grains works for me) it still doesn't shoot teeny tiny groups at 100, but the groups at 200 yards are just about the same size as they are at 100 yards.

This group is prone, with only a bipod up front at 510 yards. It is about 2.75-3"

This has worked well for me and I know many others. Might it be primer, seating depth...?

The load that HuntKY posted above is a good one. Almost exactly What I've used in 4 257 bees through the years. Daryl.

I have had the best luck with H 1000 and 100 grain bullets. Hodgdon shows 78 grains as max , but at 77 i am at a consistent 3,590 fps and tight groups. IMR 7828 is a close second. This is in Mark V USA made.

I had a really weird thing happen w/ a 243 Win that may offer some encouragement to you?

I tried ALL the "go-to" powders and the best results I could get was with IMR-4350; 1.5 MOA max usually more like 2 and that w/ light bullets. I don't know why, but I decided to try RL-17 in it and VIOLA! It really was like flipping a switch; even with bullets that had delivered PATTERNS with other powders!

Never seen that nor heard of it, but it could be your rufle's issue? Maybe try RL-25 & IMR-7828?

Good luck! You're right though; the 110 NAB is not a bad bullet at all.

Haven't tried TTSX's, but mine shoots 100 grain TSX's into 3/4" groups with RL22.

Several of the guys at our hunting property as well as myself shoot both the Sierra and Hornady 100 grainers. The oal is 3.165 and seems to shoot well in all of the rifles ( Vanguards and Mark V's).
