He didn't say he's not drinking it, he's just not buying beer.

I know high school kids and college kids who make 70k a summer working on seiners. Just saying...

I've kind of bagged this idea. But... the 280 is being reborn next summer.

Think 7RM, Mickey MR...

Stick with the .473" bolt face and go 280 AI.

You're welcome.

It's a toss up for me, either will do what I'm looking for. The Arkey would be a great one.

PITA and somewhat expensive to convert, especially since you would still have a DBM. I'd sell it in the classifieds and buy an SPS Stainless 7 Mag.

If the DBM is something that you like and want to keep, then I'd say dremel away!

The better advice though, is to sell the gun, get one without DBM, and put good money into it to make it better.

If necessary due to finances, just put some cheap synthetic dremeled takeoff on the DBM until you can trip it.

This rifle has some sentimental value to me, and I actually do like the DBM (call me crazy, but it's a smooth action). I'm thinking I'll use just the action, go with something that mic's .650" at 24", and an Edge or regular fill Mickey, and hope for it to come in under 8.5# scoped.

The longer answer is, I've waste an enormous amount of money going the lower cost route. Just to turn around and and pay for the higher cost option down the road. I would have saved an incredible amount of money if I just saved and purchased the correct item the first time.

Rouge, that's kinda' the idea I've adopted on this one. This rifle is either going to be built into, or sold to partially fund, something that is built or bought exactly as I need to suit my hunting style. I've learned these last few years that I don't NEED ultra-light, I don't need a short-ish barrel, and I like having a lot of bullet going fast.

That leads me to the whole 7RM/280A.i, 24-26" tube, Mickey handle. That's something that'll launch high BC at cruisin' speed, be steady over a back-pack, and carry light enough that I can still go 15 miles.

Sounds cool. Rifles belong in a golf bag. Ultra lights, sporters and heavies. Whatever lifts your skirt. I've some of each.

Nothin' finer than a 8# mid/big Seven for slucing all manner of game pretty much planet wide.... and hucking high BC pills with modest recoil....

So, if you want to really [bleep]-up and build a perfect rifle whilst still in your teens..... by all means, proceed.

By the way.... if you think college is expensive.... wait until you have kids.....

*Still only have a Ti take-off stock that may or may not fit correctly & costs about $225

You can get the exact McMillan stock you want with the exact inlet specs you need in the exact colors you want for $438 from Rick B.

Tanner, The Ti is a good value that will weigh 23-24 oz compared to 32 oz of a Mcmillan unless you pay more for an Edge. A 260.00+ savings.

Any competent smith will make sure it fits correctly.
