Personal Locator Beacon There have been some pretty lengthy discussions in this forum about having a P.L.B. with you in the back country. This story is a perfect example of how they can save your life. http://missoulian.com/news/state-an...c42b37c-29c0-11e2-9170-001a4bcf887a.htmlI know some guys feel that it ruins the purity of the wilderness experience, but you can bet your ass this guy and his family are glad he had one. I carry the DeLorme InReach which allows two way text messaging when paired with a smart phone.

Makes me glad my Inreach will be here Monday.
They stopped traffic in front of the Ennis hospital that day with that helicopter in the highway. I suppose they were dealing with this. I've seen that helicopter flying all over, they must be busy!

That's like the prototypical scenario of how it's all supposed to work. Fortunate there was a helicopter in the vicinity. From way out there to the hospital in a little over 2 hours is pretty amazing. I hope the guy recovers.

We used a DeLorme InReach on our last 4-day backpacking trip. Very satisfied with it as it allowed the folks back home to track our progress. We had it set to send out a location ping every 4 hours. I hope we never have to utilize it in an emergency but it's nice to know it's there.
