Mornin' all! SO I was surfing along last night and saw one of these for sale in a local forum site - Gun was only marked "Remington Sportsman 12" & the serial number starts with a 'P' and ends with a 'V', and darn that thing looks like an 1187. I think it only takes 2 3/4" shells. There were just two pics. the gun has what appears to be the bugly matte finish that Remmy puts on low-end guns, and fu-bugly beech wood stock.
Is this an 1100 or 1187?
Will 1100 or 1187 (respective of model) fit this gun?

The Sportman Auto 12 is basically an 1100 with cheaper wood. IIRC, they were only out 2 years, 1985 and 1986. The rem chokes were on the 1986 models. I have a 1985 with mod choke, and it cycles and shoots just fine. If you mar the wood, its "Oh well". Can't do much for the cheap wood cosmetics. I have no regrets. Price was right.

It was also a name used for the model 58 IIRC, which predated the model 1100 and 1187.

The sporstman has been a name used by remington off and on for years. I have a pair of M11 Sportsmans, one each in 12 and 16ga. If you take a look at their website, you'll see that they've a "new" Versamax Sportsman out now.

oldotter has it right. I too have one and it is really a pretty nice shotgun. I restocked mine when I found a walnut set off of a special purpose magnum gun. If youcan get it for the right price it will be a nice gun for you.
