This spike I shot across a canyon in 2010 had his headgear so tangled up in this Alder thicket it took me a half hour to get him untangled enough to start to turn him over to cut him up.
It's hard to see in the pics, but it was so steep my son was standing less than a full step behind and above the elk when he took the pic. If it wasn't for the alder thicket, he would have rolled all the way to the bottom of the canyon. [img:center][Linked Image][/img]

Only elk I've ever killed......taken on a special draw hunt on the Wichita Mts. National Wildlife Refuge in SW Oklahoma.
