Sound advice Tom...Let things lie for a bit Ron...if you've been a good neighbor there is a good chance you are still golden. If someone showed up at my place with a chainsaw and beer I know they'd be wellcome...:)

That's what we hope. Once the dog issue is over we might be able to talk our way back on. Owner was actually upset he needed to do this when he told us. PA actually holds landowner harmless for injuries to hunters on private property as long as no criminal activity on landowner's part was involved. In other words, if a tree falls when you are in a stand on that tree the landowner ins't liable unless the tree fell because he cut it down while you were in it and he knew you were there. But his lawyer doesn't trust the law because it is fairly new and there isn't much case law to evaluate. So we keep in touch with him and wait. Such is hunting in the 'burbs.

Ron, we have similar landowner protection here, but most landowners either don't believe it or pretend not to believe it to give them an easy way to say no. The world just isn't friendly anymore and no one wants to share. Sounds sort of childish, but it is also true.

Really, the problems you are having revolve around the handshake. A handshake used to be good for a man's word (most of the time). Nowadays, it seems like it is rare that a man sticks by his word and does the right thing. So enter the lawyer. Now people have to worry about litigation over someone hunting on their land.

A few years back, a lady I knew from work attended my Pheasants Forever banquet. On the way out, she slipped on some ice and broke her ankle. Her insurance company wanted to come after us. What did she do? She refused to tell them who put on the banquet. She said we had nothing to do with her breaking her ankle. Talk about being a stand up person! Not that common these days unfortunately!

My advice is to approach it slowly. Bringing a case of beer and immediately asking for permission wont work. Hang out with the guy for awhile and he will bring it up....I am sure you know all that.

The lawsuit thing is a lot like gun crimes and school shootings. They are not really as common as folks would have you believe ("folks" being the media, the internet forums, email lists, etc.). But when one does happen, big deals are made of it immediately and everyone runs for cover.

A couple years ago, some organization surveyed lawsuits and found that the vast majority of them are between corporations; not individuals suing individuals, which ranked about last on their list.

Whats up for me is an April Bear hunt in Idaho with my hunting buddy from in Rapid City. This will be a first for us. I am searching the gun safe for the proper rifle. Thinking the 300 RUM might get the nod.

Everyone knows the .223 is the magic stick for thost Tjay. crazy

I'd think a 300rum would be up to the task.

Spring bear huh?

Well, I like a .450 marlin or a .300 WBY.

Depends on if it's a leaf spring bear or a coil spring bear.

Spot and stalk. We were told shots could get long. We both have 2 bear tags.

Dave, Is a leaf bigger than a coil I would hate to get the wrong one.

I could break out the 375 RUM but I think it might be too much of a good thing.

tzone, I would use the 223 but it is way to heavy to haul around. I am thinking the back up might be a 264 Winny or heck it could be the primary.

So dang many decisions oh well back on the stair stepper.

Good idea using that steeper machine. I was in Idaho about 11 years ago for an elk/deer hunt. Steep is a good word to describe that place, damn pretty country as well. The drive out of Lolo, MT on hwy 12 into Idaho is very scenic.
