Pretty poor in that department. Fortunately, they typically leave the wood proud, so the issue can be rectifed in most instances. I was fortunate enough to acquire a Shiloh Sharps a few years ago. That's the problem with #1s, you might win the wood lottery or you might not. It doesn't seem like there's much inbetween. Has anyone ever complained and asked for replacement?
