Is that a "Lund Fisherman" Dave? If so, my neighbor has it's twin.

Looks good Dave. Down-riggers too I see. Should get some decent milage from the 4 stroke Yamaha. With gas prices now days you have to take that into consideration. I figure 2 months until ice-out in your neck of the woods. smile

ND,
Is the 8 a two stroke? Is that enough of a kicker for that size boat? The reason I ask is that I owned an 18.5' Crestliner with their SST transom and a 150 with a 15 kicker and always had a hard time controlling it with the 15 kicker in wind or current. I never was so tired after a day of fishing on LOW in wind with that boat using the kicker. Hope yours works better. And I WAS NOT eating ice cream that day!!

I've seen the 8's do well for what I have in mind.

And yes it is a 4 stroke as well.

The way I see it, if the weather renders the 8 ineffective, then the 150 idled down will be the ticket. grin

Mine was an older 2 stroke and I could not idle it for more than a few minutes without problems. Hope yours works better. It is a great size boat for LOW. I used mine at White Earth also but it was too big for that lake size. It also worked great on Mille Lacs, Leech, Ottertail, Oahe, and the St. Croix river. You will enjoy it.

That 8hp will do well on that boat. Especiall if it's a T8 high thrust kicekr.

I've had them on a 19 and 20' boat and they did well. The tiller will give you better boat control the "tie bar" will make it a bit easier to fish but you will have to work the wheel a lot.

I have a 6hp evinrude that I used on my Alumacraft a few times that worked fine for that boat but not as smooooooth as the Yamaha 4 strokes are.

I'm surprised you had issues with the 15 hp kicker.

I should have read further...

15hp 2 stroke was the issue. It probably needed to be run at a higher RPM than trolling would allow. That is the beauty of the 4 strokes.

Dave is right. You can motor down that 150 and pull cranks. It most likely wont troll down enough to pull crawler harneses, but maybe. I know Yamaha digital gauges and/or a trolling system that you can put on the big motor for that. It is probably as much as the kicker though.
