Hey gang,
I need an easy on the shoulder but mean on a javelina load for a 308.
My nephew agreed to go on his first hunt with me this spring to hunt javelina. I figure my 308 with a 125/130 grain bullet would be a good choice for him. He is 17 but skinny and kind of a weakling. He shot the 25-06 fine but thats what I am using.
Anyone have any suggestions?

The rifle he will be using is a 760 pump in 308.

Kique

Used a Barnes Original X with 50 grains of BLC-2 with a RP case and WLR primer. Chrony was 3050fps. Rifle was a Savage model 11.
Not a real good warm weather load. Used this in 30 degree weather and colder. Reduce for warmer weather.

Not
At home right now, but I have 130 grain Hornadys loaded up for my girlfriend's .308. It's a light load and I can't remember the powder, more than likely its something I couldn't find a use for like IMR 4007

Oh, and to be clear, those bullets will kill the hell out a javelina. But if you don't have it aren't interested in them I'd go 125
NBT

FYI Nosler is coming out this year with a 125 gr Accubond which would be a good choice along with the 130 gr TTSX.

Anyone try those new Hornady 125 SST's in a 308? Just curious as they seem pretty inviting too.

I've tried a few of those. This was when my son was 10 YO and I'd just bought him a compact .308 w/16.5" bbl. Bullet was the Hornady 130 gr SSP with Fed 210's.

26.0 gr SR-4759 - 2,145 fps
37.0 gr I-4895 - 2,115 fps
31.0 gr I-4198 - 2,245 fps (best accuracy - he shot his first deer with this load)

Thanks for the info. I was down at the sportsman warehouse friday and picked up a box of 125 NBT's.
The choices were slim pickings and powder was all but gone. I think they had some shotgun type powder like red dot or something along those lines and some VihtaVouri(sp)powder. all the Hodgdon and the likes were all gone. Really sucks.
So Im gonna keep watch and pick up what I can. If all fails I can see what H4350 will do in a compressed load which I am leaning towards.
This shortage of gun powder sucks.
Thanks to all you guys tho, if I find a powder on the shelf I can use, im jumping on it.lol
