And a 7RM takes the 280, and the Mashburn......

Could someone post a Mashburn in a 2-piece?

PS (Brunette or Redhead would be preferable)

( Bump) Ok... I've read nearly this WHOLE thread. I've used 3 different 7-08's to take 35 deer from 1980-1998. I like the .308 better as a gen. purpose rifle. I think it hits harder & puts a bigger hole with heavier bullets at normal hunting ranges. .Despite what the gack might say... I think deer go down faster, which is good for where I hunt on the edge of a thick bedding area hemmed in with Hi-fence. I like a 20" brl .308 for good work on feral hogs running thru the broomweeds out to 150 yds,it simply can't be beat. I like the .308 in a tactical rifle for the same reasons everyone else does. It is very easy to load the .308 up to specs...one always is stretching the 7-08's limits. That said..for really long range hunting I like the 6.5-o6 A.I & 7 RM.

Think we could start a 7mm08 vs 260 thread?

Too bad we can't bump up the sniper rifle thread...

The 223 AI thread has left this one in the dust...

Went back and read some of the posts. Hard to believe there was so much fish talk on a rifle thread...

We need a new thread: 7mm-08 vs 7x57 vs .280 grin

My humble opinion: I love the versatile, mild, pleasant 7mm-08 so much I built one for my wife.

But when you get to thirty caliber, there are many cartridges that offer advantages over the .308. The .30-06 is more flexible and shines with heavy for caliber bullets. The .308 Norma Magnum or .300 Win Mag offer a flatter trajectory.

Never had much interest in a 308 for some reason. As a 7mm fan the 7-08 does interest me but with a 243, 260, 280, and 30-06 in the safe, I think it's definitely more of a want than a need!

Personally, I'll go with a 7mm-08.
mainly beacause it is ballistically superior to the 308W, secondly because I'm a 7mm fan and it's the perfect companion of my trusty 7mmRM thirdly because in my Sako 85 it's a real delight with 140 grs bullets.

I shoot 140gr VLD or Sierra SBT (deer), Partition (versatile) or Barnes X (boar, black bear) one hole group at 2800 to 2900 fps.

This is simply BS!!! Everyone here (or at least most of you) are using strictly subjective information to arrive at erroneous conclusions.

All data should be scientific and no attention should be paid to all the bantering about how this feels, flatter trajectories, or whether or not the "deer will notice".

Let's deal with just the facts and nothing else....

The 308 is a really cool cartridge but the 7mm-08 is sexier so the 7mm-08 is superior for logical and patently obvious reasons. End of discussion... wink

I've can't tell how many times i've flip flopped on these 2 cartridges.I finally decided on what rifle it'll be.

So i came to a conclusion this week on the cartridge. I'm getting my carry permit and buying a pistol instead!

I just bought an X-Bolt in 7mm-08. I already had 3 308s and even more 243s. I had the 7mm-08 dies on the shelf and wanted one. I sold my previous 08 a few years ago. I surely didn't need the 7mm-08, just scratching an itch.

I don't know about the rest of you on this post, but I would solve this issue by owning both and calling it a day.
