I'd like to shoot the thing (in all of it's different loadings) at our 200 Meter Buffalo League Match,....in typical Sierra Vista wind, before making any call WHATEVER about this being noteworthy.

One of our better shooters shot a TEN RUN in a switchy gale, with 40 gr .22LR Standard Vel., at our last match.

Sorry, I just can't see those little .17 pills doin' that.

This should go over well as a real hunting round in those areas that have centerfire restrictions.

I think it's prett cool! Sounds like a good woodchuck load for settled areas....which is a lot of the east.

In above link, Ron Spomer said $.30 a piece, that would be $15.00 for 50. I wouldn't be suprised if $17.00 would be more realistic.

You gonna reload 17 hornet for less than that, but folks in rimfire only areas might be happy.

Unfortunately, rim-fire cartridges take all the fun out of reloading.

What states and areas have rimfire only restrictions? From reading here, it sounds like CT and parts of PA?

I'm still waiting for this to happen, again. I wouldn't mind a CZ 452 in 5mm Rem. I have a 591 and love it.

In Oklahoma, we have certain Wildlife Management Areas, primarily wetlands, that are rimfire only.

pg: I don't know where the RF restrictions are, but lots of fields back here, within driving distance, are small farm fields (by western standards).Houses scattered here and there, with livestock, etc,and farmers don't mind you hunting but noise is a big factor to them.

Many times shots are not really "long" and something that reaches 300 yards will take in most of a days shooting.A cartridge like this is just too convenient, and well suited to a lot of it.

No real trick to stick something bigger in the truck for those times and places you can use it....we have some big fields here too, mostly out along the Connecticutt River on Vermont/NH line.

I'm wondering what obstacles would prevent an existing .17hmr from being retooled into the .17wsm?....

But in a single shot like the low wall or even a TC contender .17hmr it could be done right? I mean given that it would be cost effective over the price of a new gun? confused Thanks....

From pictures it looks like a fatter cartrige.
Maybe too big for the rimfire firing pin to hit the rim with a contender frame?

Too early to tell.

I vividly recall a buddy of mine trading off a beautiful Springfield 1911 that I had done quite a bit of custom work to for a Glock in .45GAP because it was "going to put the .45ACP out of business & off the map." I love bringing that up to him now by asking if he's shot that Glock lately. Answer is always the same. "If I could find some dang ammo....." whistle
