Pam got this shot of the boy at a track meet a week or so ago.

They are in Detroit Lakes today.

Very cool indeed. How's Nate doing in track, Dave?

Fishing this year has been hot and cold. Here are a few we got on Saturday. Proud of my daughter who caught one of these 4. We got 27 slabs with the smallest being 11". Almost all of them were over 12". Hard to read, but yes, these are 14"ers!

I don't fish much, looking to change that, but have never caught a crappie. I grew up in south central North Dakota, caught lots of bullheads, pike, perch, and the occasional walleye. My little people are probably sunfish age (3,2, and 2) so I think I need to buy a few little fishing rods, life jackets....somebody is going to end up in the water... and some patience.....anyone know where I can find that last one?

You sort of transition into it.

He's doing very well Bill.

He's no kenyan, so the super long distance isnt really his game, and he's no kirby pucket either so the short sprint isnt really where he's at either.

The 200 is a nice race for him I think.

Although he is a solid anchor for a 4 X 100 relay too.

You aint a kidding they are hard to come by. Pretty proud that my daughter caught one of them too. Made my day. I had to call and have mom bring her out when I saw they were biting. After she got there, I never reeled in another fish, I would set the hook and hand her my rod if the bite was on my rod. If her bobber went down, she did it all herself.

Oh, and also proud to say one of my 6 year old boys is already baiting his own hook! That is going to make Canada easier by golly!

heres a limerick an old friend used to say.
In honor of the MN fishing opener

fishy fishy,in the brook
come and bite upon my hook
bite it quick and bite it hard
so I can fry your sides in lard.

I saw three yearlings yesterday on the way home from work. Boy, are they scruffy looking right now as they shed their winter coats. The boat is getting close to completion. Cost me $15.00 to get the 2" ball removed from my Explorer. I'd have never gotten it off with my limited tools-he had to heat it up quite a bit before the impact wrench finally broke it loose.

Gotta grease the trailer bearings, rewire the trailer, scrub the boat, and I'm ready to go. Kickin' it old school this weekend-no depth finder. No big deal, as I'm staying home on Prior Lake, which I know very well. Hit the water about about 4 a.m. fish for walleyes till about 9, then go fill up on crappies and sunnies. The sunnies are running nice this spring from what I hear. First time I'll have fished in 10 years. Can't wait!

Fish the shallow weeds my friend. You'll be alone but you'll find the walleyes. Pitch jigs with minnows, maybe leeches, and YES, use your cranks in the weeds.

I saw two strutting tom's in a wetland preserve last night on my way home. It got me pretty fired up. They were the first one's I've seen all year. The kids and I are going to try for one or two this weekend. They're excited as I am but it's because they get to skip school on Friday. smile

Make sure you've got your tick spray.

Storm going through the area right now. Lightning/thunder, wind, rain and pea size hail.

We didn't have any during Jack's ballgame. They won 16-3. He pitched the 3rd and 4th inning. He struck out 5 and a kid hit a pop fly that was caught the first basemen. The kids have a good game all around.

Now, it's time to get gear ready for turkey hunting. Trying to keep two kids from wiggling too much will be my biggest challenge!
