Friend of mine has a Ruger 77 in 250Savage that is his wife`s gun.It is out of commision with a broken safety. I have a Ruger 77 Compact in 308 that I just bought and offered it to her for a hunt in a couple weeks.Looking for input for a reduced load with Hornady 130gr spirepoints. The powders I have on hand...BLC-2,4064,4895.
Thanks , Joe

The simplest, would be take the max charge of 4895 for a 120 grain bullet in a 250 Savage...

use the same charge of 4895 in a 308 case with the 130 grain bullet...

if you don't have enough velocity to fit your needs, slowly work up from there..

the recoil would be closest to what she is use to..

Thanks ,I`ll give that a try. I shot the Compact yesterday and was amazed that the recoil was not as bad as I thought it would be with Winchester factory 150 gr silvertips.Everyone agreed though that it was the loudest rifle at the range though
Thanks,Joe

I share a few chronographed load I developed for a Ruger compact w/ 16.5" barrel. And yes - they are loud!

She got the chance to shoot it with the 37gr 4895 load.No complaints and shot a decent group.Way better than minute of deer.Hope she has a good hunt and takes a wall-hanger and my bud has to pay for the mount.
