I just recently acquired a LH Stainless Model 70, but the bolt handle checkering is really quite poor. I would rather have a smooth bolt knob with no checkering at all than keep this one the way it is.
What are my options? Anybody make an aftermarket LH Stainless bolt handle for a model 70? Or is there a gunsmith that could modify a new RH stainless bolt handle to LH and make it work and look right?(Mark Penrod possibly?)
What are my options and price to expect to pay for this modification?
Also, really like Mark Penrod's checkered bolt stop-what does he charge to do that?

Penrod could certainly do it. Don't know what he'll charge.

Cut the bolt knob off thread bolt stem and installed what you want

I appreciate the responses so far but I'm wanting to keep this a classic hunting rifle(ie., cutting and threading an aluminum oversized tactical knob on isn't the direction I'm wanting to go with this project). I'm wanting to replace the entire bolt handle to make it look more like the bolt on a Pre'64 Win 70 or Dakota Model 76...then bed it in a McMillan of some sorts(possibly an Echols Legend).
Does anybody do Left hand stainless bolt modifications for a model 70?

Any good riflesmith can do the work. Simple stuff. Call Mark Penrod and be done with it.

Mark Penrod is a fellow lefty. Here is a 30-06 he built for a friend who does not post here. Here are the details: #3 taper Lilja barrel, Echols fiberglass stock, Williams extractor, 9.5 lbs Trimmed down the tang, and added checkered bolt release. Blackburn bottom metal, Custom Dual Dovetail bases by Mark

Two that I have seen and really like are Penrod and Heilman. A wrong-handed buddy owns these rifles. The top one is Penrod, the bottom Heilmann. And those are Legend stocks.
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

I've held and drooled on those two rifles. Both very nice rifles, but the metal work on that Penrod is something to behold. Special.
I've seen more well-shot game lost with TSXs than any other premium bullet.

Well, we are talking bolt handles...:)
The top rifle is a Penrod.
The lower one was mainly built by the one and only Mr. Leeper. With the bolt handle work by Heilmann.
Both incredible rifles from talented riflesmiths...

Wrongside is correct. The bolt on the bottom rifle was redone by Heilman.
