Hi, I'm looking at getting a Sauer 202 Polar in 7mm Rem Mag. Does anybody have any experience or comments with respect to this rifle? I'm attracted to the fact that the barrel can be changed to different calibres, the stainless finish and the build quality of the firearm. I must admit that I think it looks great.
I already own a 202 Outback .308 and it's great for mountain walk-in hunts as it's so light. Target species are dall sheep, mountain goat and brown bear. Throw in moose and elk too.
Any feedback would be useful. Thanks

Welcome to the Campfire!

Your land must restrict the number of receivers?

While I like Sauer and have one of their old guns I don't think that one has features I desire on a hunting bolt action such as CRF and a M70 type safety.

Perhaps someone will list all of the Switch barrel rifles?

I got a CZ 455 that came with two barrels. I never put the other one on.

Thanks for that.

The safety definitely takes a bit of getting used to but it's silent and allows economy of movement whilst potentially risking an accidental discharge.

I tend to agree that, on a practical level, it seems unlikely that I'll ever need to change the barrel from 7mm RM to 300WM although it does provide a bit of a 'safety blanket' should I become bored with the original calibre.

There are no specific restrictions on the number of firearms I can own here but it a bit of a pain to get a firearms licence and the Police can undertake random checks of my storage facilities..... Semi-automatic rifles and handguns are very difficult to obtain.

Just looked up the CZ455, certainly a contender

I know you said stainless finish, but you realize that it is not stainless steel, right? It is merely a stainless colour version of Sauer's Ilaflon coating.

The 7mm RM is an excellent chambering. I have used one for over 25 years and, while I do/have used other chamberings, it is one of my favourites.

The Sauer 202 is available in 222 Remington through 458 Lott, in Left and Right hand configurations. I own a LH 202 XT Classic Synthetic in 30-06 and 9,3x62mm.

The more well used switch barrel rifle platform is the Blaser R93 and R8.

I must say that I did not appreciate that it wasn't stainless steel, so you've provided a valuable insight.

I have a Remington CDL SF in .270 and it's a lot easier to care for.

Do you have any comments about the merits, or otherwise, of the Ilaflon coating?

Sorry, but I have no first hand experience with the Infalon finish. I am curious about it though, so hopefully someone will answer your question.
