Word. Friend's son had one during turkey season and was afraid to shoot it. I was gonna show him it did not kick too much and picked it up with my right hand, aimed it at the top of a big old yellow pine tree and pulled the trigger. It jammed my elbow down into my shoulder socket and my whole right side went numb. Thought I had a stroke. Limped inside the cabin and fell down.

That made me crack up laughing..

In the context of a nine pound 416 Rem, a little heavier 460 B, a ten lb 458 Lott, and an 8 1/2 lb 340 B, all unbraked, it was a six lb (?) H&R, 3 1/2" 12 ga. Which while fired while squatting dumped me back and on my butt.

460 Weatherby Mag Mark V Deluxe. Was rebarreled with a factory contour 24" with no brake! Factory loads were a handful.

#1... H&R youth model 48 topper 12ga w/ 3" mag...flipped out of my hand.
#2...378wby w/4x redfield..intentions were to put a more powerfull scope on it, but after 3 shots offhand, decide i wouldnt want to sight a new one in..dumped it
#3..bought another 378wbyw/3-9xleupold...try again..1st shot offhand, hurt like hell, but appearred to be pretty darn close to my intentded target...2nd shot from a rest; hit the bullseye...blood running down my face from above MYeye...dumped it
#4..One more 378wby..this one might have been ok, but i never found out..got on the bench, squeezed the trigger and at the sound of the firing pin clicking on the empty chamber(short stroked the action apparently) i flinched and jumped back..dejavu...unloaded the magazine and dumped it... the end !

375 weatherby mag [bleep] that thing would make you see stars... 721 in a 270 winchester traded it for a 300 win mag for relief...

Not an overly powerful cartridge, but a 358 Win in a light Browning BLR with no pad. I was a teenage twig and after 4 rounds from a bench I decided to sell it. My father thought I was overreacting, but he only fired 5 rounds before declaring my decision to sell was spot on. He sported some good shoulder bruising for a week or so.

I have shot a few memorable kickers, including my 505 Gibbs with 680 gr bullets @ 2400 fps from the bench. But the hardest I think was a 585 GMA - of course my shoulder had just been softened up by previously firing two 375 H&H rifles, two other 416 Rigbys, a 458 Lott and finally the 585.

If you are going to be stupid - you gotta be tough

H&R 10 Guage slug gun. I shot 15 shots out of it at the range one day. It's been a couple of years but my teeth still hurt when I think of it. I still have that gun for some reason.

I didn't care for 12 guage slugs from a 7.5 lb shottie not did I care for my uncle's old Remmie is it 7400 or 7600 pump in 3006 with a steel buttplate. That sucked.

Good thread, because it really matters on the shooter.

Remington Express pump with original plastic stock. benching. Hornady SST 12ga. slugs. On my 3rd stock. Blackhawk Spec II now.

T/C Prohunter 20" .460 S&W. Stock never fit me. Sold that sob!

I know many shooters that cringe at pulling the trigger on a Mosin Nagant 7.62 x 54R. I have 2 of the Model 38's. (shorter than the standard) I have no problem with either. Hand me almost any odd 6 and I'll hand it back. Reason why I don't own a .30-06. Flippin Recoil!

The S&W 340PD. This is their scandium framed .357 that weighs 11 oz. The recoil of it was so severe that shooting it felt like catching a fastball barehanded.

Rifle was a 500 A-square loaded too heavy. I couldn't maintain my grip no matter how hard I tried; nor could I keep from taking a step back.
The worst handgun was a T/C Contnder I rechambered to 358 Winchester and shot with 250 factory loads. Ouch. GD

First bolt action I ever owned, a Rem ADL 30-06, 22" barrel and a really lousy recoil pad was the hardest kicker I've shot. I know that's not gonna impress anyone, just answering the question honestly. Really hated sighting that thing in. No longer own it, and to date it is the only Remington rifle I've ever had. I didn't think the groups I was getting was worth the punishment.
