My wife and I went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner tonight. When I first saw this head I thought it was an Ibex, then considered perhaps Markhor but what kind of chain restaurant drops that kind of count on taxidermy and besides, the horns and/or hide aren't right for either. Any ideas on this one? What is it?

Angora. Their hair makes fine sweaters, right up there close to cashmere. Grown in Texas and other places as a cash crop. The mount is not a really mature specimen. Jack

I'll go for Angora... The could have popped a Texas Dall sheep just as easy and looked alot better... Either way you can find them on small farms all over.

I've thought it over (because I farm, not because I keep extra rubber boots around) and put the clues together. 1)The thread is in the gunwriter forum. 2)It's about small ruminants 3)Who knows more about these things than people from Montana?  I should have waited for Muledeer's answer.  Seriously, though it could have been a Kiko (normally white) or Spanish goat (normally brown or black) too. Wool = probably Angora Hair = probably Kiko

It has many names, feral goat, Catalina goat, Spanish goat all much the same thing depending where they were dropped off.
Sailors dumped them on the islandz of the world, in centuries past in case of shipwreck, a food soource was available and Aussies know them as a milk and food source near old mining sites.
Most Aussies kill a few dozen to a few hundred every year.

Yes, Angora goat. I went hunting on my friend's grandmother's ranch near Junction and she raised them for many years. I was told their hair was used to make car seat upholstery for many years.
