I have a Model 99 that my father gave me and I want to sell it. It sat in his closet since I was a kid; I am 38 now. I don't think he ever shot it. It is in very good condition and the lever action is super smooth. Here are some pics of it. Thanks for your help in advance.

It's a 1950's model 99R in 250-3000 in good condition, though not great.

Best suggestion I can make is to put it up on gunbroker.com with a starting price of $1 and really good pictures (outside pics taken in indirect lighting is best) and let it get bid up to what it's worth.

Nice gun.. got one like it but not in that good of shape. It'll sell for good money.

Since it was your father's, nobody in your family to sell it to in order to keep it in the family?

What you have is a 250R, not a ton of them around. Personally, I wouldn't sell my dads 99. But you should see 650 or so

It would help to know at least what state you are in. You can do a direct sale if you are not into auctions and internet selling.

Or even better.....if it was in Canada.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I should keep it, but I will probably never shoot it. I am not a collector, but I like guns that I shoot. My brother is the only other one in my family, but he is a felon, so he can't have it. Someone told me it could be worth over $1500, so I figured I would get a ballpark value. I know that rarity and condition are what drives the price up, and I didn't really know what mine was. If it is worth less than $800, I will keep it for sentimental value and pass it on to one of my boys.

$1500? No.. and if you do find a buyer for that at that price, give him my number.

Maybe half of that if you are lucky, billy's guess is also realistic.

I have a 1950 R in 250 also and love it. I recently bought another 1950's R in 300, from a member here. The next R I want is a pre war one. I'm not saying your's is not worth or won't bring $800, but I don't think I'd go that high. If you do enjoy shooting you should keep that one. I went to the range yesterday, to sight in for a pig hunt coming up in 2 weeks. The first shot was a bit of a flyer about 2" high at 50 yds, the next 3 were a tight clover leaf. Didn't even go down to 100 yds, no need to. I drive my buddy absolutely nuts shooting groups with Remington 100 grainers that he can't beat with his 243 hand loads in a turnbolt. Lots of guys like the 87 gr Hornady's, but mine shoots the 100's so well I've never tried anything else. Keep it and enjoy it, Joe.

i know many of you on here would not pay $800 for the rifle, however if that rifle with good pics ran on gunbroker with a .01 starting bid I would bet my yearly salary it would do $800. I have been watching 99s on gunbroker for a couple of years and in a down economy egs in the same condition with no scope in a 300 savage do mid to high 500s. iI think that rifle does mid 800s on gunbroker maybe even a little over 900. jmo, however the 250-3000 alone brings $500 in any condition.
