Does anyone make a rifle carbine (AR platform or otherwise) in 9mm that accepts Glock magazines? Or maybe in 45ACP?

If not, why not?

CMMG makes one that will accept Uzi mags once you mill a new slot for the catch. The Uzi mags used to be five bucks.

The Keltec Sub2000 are in 9mm and 40S&W. I have one of each and they are great. They are accurate and reliable.

Would be nice to have for shooting drills on steel at close range. T1G and Bill Rodgers use them on their Rogers Ranges for exactly that purpose. Have you priced frangible 5.56 lately? Also, frang may protect the shooter, but it still tears hell out of even AR 530 steel. You can buy AR 550, or even AR 600, it doesn't divot, but it'll crack 'cause its gettin near to file hardness.

I just think it would be great to have cross-platform compatibility. I don't even own a Glock, but they seem to be about universal in the world.

This would be really fun in 45acp with a drum magazine.

That looks nice!

Why did Marlin and Ruger give up on their handgun carbines?

Marlin never had a great following with the "Camp 9/45" series, IMO. They were interesting, but why take a pistol cailber to camp, when most of us alrady had a .22 LR? In those days, most of us could only support having a few guns with multiple roles. Of course, looking at the prices today, they are about a collector's item.

IRC, Ruger was banking on a LE market that I don't think happened as big as expected, the draw for a pistol caliber in a patrol car wasn't as attractive as a light rifle caliber. Plus, the Police Carbine magazines were Ruger only, and the Police Department had to be Ruger handgun equipped to use the same magazines. Ruger's pistols didn't compete well with the police market for sidearms, so no reason to buy the Carbine if you weren't using a Ruger pistol.

Any LE folks out there with better facts?

I have the Lone Wolf lower, and it's a solid quality made product. The upper is on order, but the delivery date keeps sliding. The mag well takes 9mm/357SIG/40SW/45GAP sized magazines only, not set up for 10mm or 45 ACP.

Kriss out in Va. Beach VA makes one that takes Glock 45 mags. Not cheap though. Although right now nothing is.

Mech Tech in Kalispell, MT makes carbine uppers that use your glock frame as the receiver, 9mm, 38 super, 357 sig, 10mm, 45, 460 rowland. They also make them for 1911 frames, alot of fun they are.

I see what you are saying take a knee. In the past if I was involved with shooting drills at close range, we used paper full size targets. But that was then, I see the point with steel. Course here where I live it doesn't matter what kind of 5.56 or 9mm it is there is no ammo, and there are rations on purchase size when a shipment shows in small quantities. Hopefully that changes sometime in the future. BTW. At any rate it sounds like it would be fun.

My buddy has a Marlin camp 45, and while it's a fun gun, I never could get over the mag well sticking out of the bottom of the rifle, butt ugly IMHO. I guess it doesn't matter, as the mag would stick out of the bottom anyway. I DO like the fact that it takes standard 1911 mags though. -TomT

AH your points were all right one. Many agencies were/are looking for the ability to defeat soft body armor as bad guys have now discovered its' benefits. The availability of accessories such as optics, slings, lights and cruiser mounts are a factor. Those are major factors when buying multiple weapons. When you take all this into consideration AR platforms are hard to beat and are by far the most common in LE circles.
