Sorry To Double Post, But:

Smith brought it up, asked me what I thought.

I think it is an awesome round, but am worried about reloading supplies. Brass, and dies.

Is the brass used 375 ruger, or is there production brass?

Hi Casey,

Gunwerks created the 7 LRM by necking down the 375 Ruger AND moving the shoulder back creating a longer neck. They offer fully formed brass.

If you were to try this yourself you would need quite a few forming dies but it is possible. There is no shortage of 375 brass. It is the only brass that hasn't moved at our local Sportsman's in months. I did buy two boxes but the other two are still there.

An alternative is to just neck down the case. I did this recently with 150 pcs of 375 Ruger brass.
It took 7 steps plus neck turning to make the finalized brass. Once I made a few cases I ordered a reamer from Pacific tool and gauge.

Dan sold me a slightly used 30" lilja 1 in 9 twist 6 groove. Had to cut off 5/8" to rechamber the 7 stw. I am doing my own chamber jobs now!

Man does it shoot! Short neck isn't an issue. Getting 3200 fps with a 180 Berger hybrid and RL-33. Checked it last week at 3 pts on the rams. While very windy the comeups were correct and it only drifted 10-12" in a gusty 15 mph crosswind at 500 M.

The 7 LRM has my attention.
Hope to shoot one in the future.

How strong is the 375 ruger brass? Anywhere as tough as 338 Lapua? I see that it has a max pressure rating in the 62K PSI range and a .532 bolt face with about 100grs H2O capacity.
I like the route AZ shooter has taken, but do not think I can back away from the 7mm/338LM yet, but the big bolt face required is a pain. Any gains over the ultra mag? I have actually had great luck with the RUM with the heavier bullets. Seems like a rifle looney case to me, but at least with STW performance with no belt sounds pretty good.

Thats pretty good info, as usual!

My smith called them, $132 for 100 pieces of brass, which I didn't find out of line.

I think I am going to go down that line as I wasn't really jazzed about going with the standard 7RM. I wanted something a little sexier.

Have you tried the 7LRM with H1000? I have 4-5 pounds on hand and would love if it is a applicable powder with good speed and accuracy.

EddBo,

It is pretty much the same at the 7mm Dakota or 7 STW. 7 Rum would produce more especially with that 29 3/8" barrel.

I made it because I wanted a shorter case with more power than the 7 Rem mag. I had a box of 375 Ruger on hand and decided to see if I could neck it down with the dies on hand.

I never bought a single custom die for it. The RCMs and 375 Rugers share same shoulder diameter and angle. Have a 338 RCM bushing FL die that Whidden made for my 338 RCM packages. I was able to use it with different bushings and some messing around with shortened 7 RUM FL and seating dies to get down to finalized dimensions. Even used the shortened 7 RUM seater die to seat bullets in beginning. Later ran the 7/375 chamber reamer into the body of a 7mm Rem Mag Redding competition seater die for an even better seater. (7 RUM also shares same shoulder angle but shoulder is .010" larger) Body bump/shoulder angle is accomplished with a 375 Ruger FL die.

Casey,

I put some H-1000 load data in my documents:

7 LRM 180VLD's at 3145 through a 27 1/2" tube with 72.8grs of H1000 and a 215m

7LRM 72.8grs. of H1000 gives 3145fps with a Berger 180VLD out of a 28" 5C Broughton tube.
---------------
Gunwerks load is 72 gr of H1000 Fed gm215 m primer with 180 VLD
--------------------------------------------------------------

Did try H-1000 with the first 7mm/375 which was a rechambered 7mm Rem mag . It has a 23 1/4" barrel and was only a test bed.

Used moly coated 168 Berger hybrid classic with H-1000:
78=3075 shoots very accurately
79=3090
80=3115
81=3135 was also quite accurate
82 3205 vel jump/over the top/some bolt lift resistance

Went to RL-33 with 180 VLDs but short barrel didn't impress much:

moly coated Berger 180 target VLDs, RL-33.
81= 2988
82= 3010
83= 3040 most accurate
84=3073
85=3124 opening up
86=3140 slight bolt lift resistance

The finalized load for this rifle was 83 grs of RL-33

The longer barrel shined with RL-33. It also is running 83 grs and with 3200 fps the longer barrel makes a difference.

---------------------------------------

I can see making a 338/375 with the 375 Ruger as Rick Bin did. You could do all work with a 338 RCM die set.

Gunwerks will sell you the brass. Mine runs a 180 VLD at 3035 with 72 grains of H1000. Scarey accurate. I am a OK shot and shot a 4x3.5 size group at 800 yards. Bbl is 25.5 long. It's a great round. Let me know if you have any more questions or if I can help you out any.

What is the felt recoil like in comparison to a 7RM? Would it be a decent round for a lighter weight build? 7lb rifle?

I have a break on mine and haven't shot it without the break. I'm guessing just a shade more than a 7mm REM

Joel,

What is the weight on your rifle? Lets see it (although I am sure you have posted it) as well as some stats. My rifle will be as follows:

Stiller Predator Action
26" #4 fluted Brux 1:9 barrel
McMillian Game Scout w/EDGE
Timney trigger, 24 oz
I will probably top it with the new line of Zeiss scopes, probably the 5.5-15.

Are those Talley LW rings/bases? You didn't need a 20 MOA cant to get to 1000?

Nope. Don't need a 20 MOA but at that velocity with the 180 VLD is right at 20 MOA which is one revolution on the Nightforce. Zeroed at 200 yards 20 MOA gets me to 1000
