I am looking at one of these, and would appreciate feedback from current owners.

Just the basics;

How do you like yours?

Any complaints?

Thanks in advance.

I bought one recently for my pre-64 Win M70 standard grade 30-06, with the RapidZ 600 reticle. I really like it. The reticle is pretty sweet once you dial in what ammo is working for you. The constant 3.5" ER is great, and something you can appreciate at the higher end of your magnification. It feels more streamlined compared to some other Zeiss scopes I've had... but you're still looking at an 18.4 oz weight. It's worth it to me. The optics quality is great and very sharp. The eye piece tube diameter (44 mm) is big, and could be an issue with bolt throw for some rifles. Mine clears but will not clear with a Butler Creek flip up cap, which is about 2 mm thick? I'm going to try to cut a strip into the cap to let the bolt clear. Not a big deal, though. I'll use the bikini style protector that came with it if I need to. Tracking is great. Overall two thumbs up from me so far.

That target is from yesterday using this scope.

Thanks Eric!

It looks great on your rifle, and you have to be happy with the results!

Thanks, Whelen. I forgot to say the scope is very easy to get behind. Super user friendly. I'm considering buying a second one for a NULA 257 Wby build over the VX-3 3.5-10, but am on the fence given the 1/3 lb weight difference. I may have to talk to Melvin.

What rifle are you thinking about pairing it with?

How would you compare this to their 4.5-14x? What are these running right now?

I have a Kimber 8400 Classic Select in 7RemMag with a really nice piece of wood on it.

Honestly, the 18.4oz. is kind-of hard for me to overlook (Cameraland's webpage shows 15.2, which I was ok with, but I took a look at SWFA and they confirmed 18.4).

A Leupie 4.5-14 may make more sense on this rifle.

Actually I have 3 rifles to scope right now, so I have been shopping hard.

I am sending you a PM.

I think its probably one of the best hunting scopes you can buy. the locking turrets are the shizznizzle. I think the turret setup is about as good as you can get on a hunting scope. only thing I would change is to have made the scope with a 30mm tube and thus have increased adjustment range and possibly more robust internals. but if zeiss did that it would probably elimianate their more expensive diavari line.

this new ziess offering IMO eliminates the niche the leupold 4.5-14 model which suffered from terrible FOV and eye box issues.

I cant say for the 3-15 but I have a 5-25 and like it alot. So far all the tracking has been spot on. Optics quality is superb. I also have a swaro Z5 and it is as very marginal differnce between the two. I would give the edge to the z5 but if I buy another high mag scope I will buy another hd5 for the simple fact that I cant see $700 differnce. One thing that I really like about the hd5 is the duplex reticle. It is heavy on the post but thin enough in the crosshair to do your long shots.

Several different reticle options, and turrets.

From about $900 up.
