So I have a Savage 99 which I assume is a Deluxe- checkered montecarlo stock with metal savage butt pad-- 308 caliber nothing rare
It is in very good plus condition- bluing maybe 95 percent or better
The serial number 1040412
Easy question for all the experts here is when was it made and value range? It has the original sights on it plus a weaver top mounted steel tubed scope

Whether you would buy one or not doesn't affect the market value..
I'd probably be able to get $550 to $650 for it at a gun show around here, if it's really 95% than probably get that off of auction sites as well. Some places where 99's are very common might run $100 less.

Gene ************************************************ Gene... Welcome to the Forum... Here's an excerpt from my records to help you determine the date of manufacture of your Model 99. N= 1962: 10372XX(10N), 10412xx(10N), 1042042(12N), 1,0481xx(12N), 1,050,xxx(12N), 1.0506xx(12N), 1,053513Without knowing your Lever Boss Code ("LBC") located in an OVAL (not a circle) on the front of your rifle's lever boss just above where the lever rotates, my records indicate that your rifle was manufactured in 1962. Note: My records show the year of manufacture (1962) first, then the rifle's serial number, then the Inspector's number (#10 and #12 Inspectors) plus the letter "N" which was used in the LBC to designate all Model 99s made in 1962. You may need a magnifying glass to read the LBC since many of the LBCs and ovals were very lightly struck and some only partially show distinctly. Strength & Honor... Ron T.

I don't know about that DL improved trigger remark. I've tried to take a poll and never got enough results to know. I've only had a couple DLs and they had good triggers.
I can assure you that does not apply to all post mills!!

You ARE correct. I do NOT want one. I've OWNED one. BTDT!!!!!!!!!! I bought a .308 DL many years ago. Actually, I traded a pre-64 model 94 for it + a hundred or so dollars. I just NEVER warmed up to a 94. Well sir I missed a couple deer with it because it wouldn't shoot worth a damn. I traded THAT for a model 11-87 Remington in mint condition in 28 ga. I still have the 11-87 and well, the DL STILL sits in the rack in the shop. Been there for over FIVE years now. Every time Loggah goes into the shop he remarks to me that's it is still there. And it's the ONLY unmolested 99 there and it STILL doesn't sell. The price is $649.00 This is the only picture I could dig up of it. I believe it's 7th from the left in front. As you can see, it's also in pretty nice shape. The post-mil F in .358 in the front row is also gone. Now the only post-mil I have is a CE and the 1895 anniversary.
