I am considering purchasing a rifle that has been re-chambered for 270/300 weatherby magnum. I see some brass sold by midwayusa and dies by redding ($175). What i cant find is any reloading data. Any ideas. I would think between 270 wby and 300 weatherby data but uncertain. Any suggestions

You could safely start with regular 270 Weatherby data and work up until muzzle velocities are about 100 fps over .270 Weatherby speeds. That's about all the gain you'll safely see.

For some general ideas, I'd look at older reloading manuals which had data for the 6.5x.300 and 7x.300 ... Sierra might be an ideal place to start.

It might be worth talking to the guys at Sierra in case they have some unpublished data available. They have helped me in that way.

Remember, whatever you do, that a custom rifle is even more a law unto itself than a factory rifle .. go carefully.

This is one of the reasons I avoid wildcat cartridges like the plague. Not only the lack of loading data- you are on your own and it can be time consuming. You have to form your own cases. Ok necking down a 300 Weatherby is not much of a trick but you still have to do it and then well fire form. All for a 100 fps, is not something I even have patience for this sort of rifle looniness like I did when I was oh so young. Then again if you can buy the rifle at a very very favorable price it might be worth playing with till you decide to rebarrel to 300 Weatherby or 7mm STW.

If you could be more specific about what are your guns specifications, such as what brand rifle,barrel length and what twist it has and what game you will be hunting you could probably get more specific data. There are some very good tough bullets on the market now that were not available when I got into loading. Good luck and be careful.

If you haven;t bought it yet consider a factory chambered 270 WIN. Money ahead down the road. FWIW Burns way too much powder for what you get in speed.
