Here's a decent light load I recently worked up. Win brass 110gr VMax, moly'd 17.0gr Unique 2.72" OAL 2125 fps (20.5" Rem varmint barrel) Case fill volume is a little over 50%. I threw a double charge to make sure it would overflow, and it does. So there is some built in safety from an accidental double charge. Quickload predicts pressure around 30K psi. Case necks and primers indicated soft pressure. Accuracy was decent. I was shooting in a 5-7 mph full-value wind. That would introduce about .7" deflection at 100 yards. Shooting the load was of course very pleasant. Very modest noise and recoil. Sort of like a plussed up 30 Carbine, but in my 12 lb rifle. I shot a few groups, dialing it in. Target board looks kind of jumbled, but here's a pic.

Those little 110s seem to just plain shoot in alot of my guns w/alot of loads.
So, I have to ask you MM....and not trying to be a smart Alec......but with your good equipment and all your shooting practice.....do you run into loads that perform poorly.....and just how bad can your gun shoot?

See how this stuff can be not only a lot of fun, but provides some very useful applications...
several years ago, set something like that up for a friends wife for deer season, with her just interested in shooting a buck grazing in the front property off the porch if the opportunity presented itself.
She was shooting an 06, but the range would have been under 150 yrds.. she loved it...
started her out with plain old 110 RNs, and then loaded up the 110 V Maxes that year and the following year, her husband loaded up some Sierra 110 HPs he had laying around.
so far she has taken 4 blacktails with 110 grain bullets out of the 06 using 20 grains of Unique...getting that sort of accuracy out of the Rem 700...that the barrel has seen a lot of miles...

kraky, Most of the time these Remington Varmint 308s shoot most anything well, but not always. I have had troubles with 155 Scenar with a stiff load of W748. Velocity was around 2950 fps from the 26" bbl, but grouping was 3" at 100 yards. Here's the proof.....grin. As you can see it loved the Scenar with RL7. The 215gr Berger Hybrid was a weak performer in my 20" 308, but did ok in the 26", Here's a success with the 308, and 208 AMax, 208's at 2600 fps, 155 Scenar happiness, 110 VMax at 3400 fps, Then I have two Rem 700 30-06's. One is the heavy 16-lb precision rig, it loves everything from 110-240gr. The sporter 30-06 is another story. It does ok with light to midweight, and good speeds, but is really finicky with the 200+ grain stuff. Hard to find a consistent 1.5 moa load for it with the heavies. That's my entire boltgun battery. Two 308s, and two 30-06s.......pretty boring.......grin.

Thanks MM for the time to post all that...very fun to look at your tutorials as always. Can you tell us a bit about that "heavy" 06? Curious about the barrel....and what twist?
Btw...I'm gonna have to play a little w/re7. It seems to be a good clean performer in alot of cases from 3030 to 4570...all the way to 06....and it throws well out my dispenser.

The heavy 30-06 is a Rem 700, Douglas #7 1/10 twist barrel, 22.5". Mcmillan A2 stock, Badger Ordnance floorplate, brake, bolt knob, 45 moa picatinny rail. Leupold MK4 16X scope. Most of the time I shoot the 208 AMax over RL17, or RL22. 2720 fps, give or take for temp. It makes a serious 1000 yard rig. And shoots fair to a mile here at 4500 feet. Tried it at 2000 yards at Icebreaker 3, but it was a no-go. It fell apart somewhere past 1500 yards.

The 110 VMax at modest velocity should wreck a deer with a rib shot, no problem. Pretty flat shooting to 150 yards too.

Nice...and not a barrel burner! It's got roughly 4500 rounds down the barrel, and it still delivers great accuracy. Just looking through the breech with the naked eyeball, the rifling is looking a little soft just ahead of the throat.

Cool stuff Shane. Heck, I just picked up a pound of H4227 just for such loads. And I'm planning on my 3rd .308 sometime next year. I've done a number of reduced loads in rounds like the '06, the .308, the .280 and my .25/284. A great way to use up odd bullet or powders I've got laying around. Excellent post as always. E

very nice! how is the powder fouling with the Unique loads? I know it makes my revolvers extra dirty, but it works so well with lead bullets I just put up with it
your 26" HB remmy acts like mine ... just wants to shoot everything you feed it well.

Powder fouling isn't too bad. My stuff is already so 'fouled' with moly, I'm not sure I can see any difference.
26" Varmint 308s are generally eager to please, it seems. Since shooting those 215s, The 26-incher got chopped to 22", and braked.
