H4350 and RL 22 is a great place to start. I really like 56 gr RL 22 with 150 Partitions and NBT's out of my Weatherby Ultralight. I'll pull out my notes on H4350 after work.

A great load I had worked up before switching to the AI cartridge is 60.5 RL 22 with 140 X (original X at that time).

MAX load, so work up slow, and probably need a long drop tube.

57 grs H4831SC and a 139 Hornady BTSP or a gives me 3050 out of a 22 inch barreled 700 and 1/2 MOA accuracy.

Bedded rifle, and free floated it shot it with several loads has great potential.

Max load of H 4831 with 139 Hornady 3 @ .54" H 4831 with 154 Hornady 3 @ .848" at 100 yards.

Unknown Fed factory loads that came with rifle. 3 @ .76"

Tried some 140 Gr Nosler E tips 3 @ 2" oh well 3 out of 4 loads shot well!

Was saving the H 4831 for my 6.5 X 284!

I'm waiting on my brother to get back from the slope to shoot his Ruger stainless 280. I loaded him up with 160gr accubonds, 154gr interlocks, 150gr ballistic tips, 150gr ttsx, and 162gr AMAX, all with RL22 and Winchester brass.

Those 139gr Hornady's the GMX that you shot? Didn't you draw a moose permit this year? Plan on using the 280?

In my 280 I had the following results:

139gr Hornady SST
57gr IMR 4831
R-P brass
WLR primers
MV=2995 fps at least 15 groups of 3 shots at 100 yards averaging just under 1".

139gr Hornady SP Interlock (flatbase)
53.5 gr H-4350
R-P brass
WLR primers
MV=2884 fps and with 5 three shot groups averaged an astonishing just over one half inch with two groups well...I wish I had pics of.

The last load is "slow" but shot really tight when I did my part. One of the most accurate hunting load I have personally put together. This was out of a Ruger M77 MkII with 22" bbl.

Of the powders mentioned, I've had excellent accuracy with 56 grs. of IMR 4831 with the Hdy 154 gr. Interlock. With H4350, it seems to shoot even fussy bullets like the 160 gr. Swift-A-Frame, and the Hdy 154 gr. Interbond at 52 grs. quite well. So, for the 160 gr. bullets, I'd go with those.
My 140 gr. bullet loads are all with Ramshot Hunter, about 59 grs. or so. Burns like IMR 4831 or Re-19. E

My 139-140 load is very similar to high brasses first load, Just use a 140 partition.

57 gr imr4831
fed 210
r-p case
2980-3000 fps
Always goes 1 inch @100

IMR-7828 and those 160gr pills will work just fine.
H-4350 with the 140's will also work.

I'd start with the 7828 and the 160's. Should work well for you in AK.

I have never loaded for a 280, but do load for a 7x64, which is close enough that Speer recommends using 280 load data. Using 280 data in the 7x64 has gotten me 280 velocities and H4350 has worked really well with 154s and 160s. I'm sure the other powders you listed would be fine also.

My LH Rem 700 C model KS in 280 Rem has a very short throat, 139 H and 154 Hornady Interlock seated to top of cannelure. Is this the norm in Remingtons?

Loaded some 162 Gr A Max with 58 gr RL 22 3 @ 1.13" 2860 FPS
Saw pressure at 59 GR. 2931 FPS 58 to 58.5 prob max working load.

59 GR RL 22 with 140 gr Nosler E Tip around 2950 FPS about 1.5" no pressure signs.

Very short throat and have to deep seat bullets.

What kind of velocity with 140 gr and 160 gr bullets are you seeing with normal pressures?
