Kids Postal Shoot Rules

Who Is Eligable:

Any 24Hour Campfire Members child covered by the two listed age groups. Member must be an actual parent or legal guardian of the kids entered. You may enter grandchildren with actual parents written permission, submit this with the Target.

How To Enter Contest

THERE IS NO time limit to enter, you may enter the day of the deadline as long as your entrants targets are postmarked by the deadline...!!!

Step 1.... Post on this thread how many kids you plan to allow to compete and state their ages. NO names unless it is a "nickname" with no reference to their actual personal info.

Step 2.... Simply enter the contest with completed Targets, one per entrant. To observe anonymity of the kids (and yourself if necessary), write on each entrants Target your Campfire handle AND a "nickname" your child can be referred to as in public.

For example; I would for my 10 year old son, write on his target...

"Wildswalker"-member "Wildswalker Junior age 10"-shooter.

I'm sure most of you can be more creative than that with a nickname....

It would not be necessary to register your child as a member of the Campfire

Safety on the Range...Safety on the Net :

On the Range.... You as a Parent and a Member of the 24Hr crowd will be the sponsor of your kids you enter. You must be present during the shooting of the contest. You must enforce proper Range Safety Practices this includes eye and ear protection.

On The Net....To practice anonymity with our kids we will refrain from posting pictures regarding the contest. Follow the above entry guidelines and your child will safely remain anonymous.

Age Groups:

Group A....ages 5 thru 9

Group B....ages 10 thru 13

Targets:

10 inch paper plates with a one inch black dot drawn in the exact center

( Note : No foam type paper plates, must be paper to endure folding and mailing in an envelope)

Suggestion: place cardboard behind the paper plate to allow better scoring of holes.

Suggestion: to make your black dot, trace a 25 cent piece and fill in with a magic marker...

Shooting Targets:

Both Groups:

Turn in only one Target per shooter. You may "Do Over" as much as you like, but only turn in one target per shooter to be scored, a Target must contain all shots listed next.

Age Group A:

Targets for age group A shall contain 10 shots each, in other words, Dad...make sure junior puts 10 shots in the target...don't worry about misses... shoot 'til there's 10 in the target!!

Age Group B:

Targets for age group B shall contain 15 shots.... missed shots require a "Do Over"

How Targets get Scored (both age groups):

General Scoring....size of the group is recorded by me on the target measuring center to center at the widest two shots, smallest group wins

Breaking Ties....a tie will be broken by measuring from the center of those two shots to the to the exact center of the target, shortest distance breaks the tie

Judging The Targets:

I will do a preliminary judgment then mail the targets to a second judge for confirmation

Sights:

Kids may shoot scopes or by choice iron sights...Remember this is for fun and for getting the kids out shooting!!!!

Caliber:

.22 Rimfire....long rifle ammo of your choice, you may shoot shorts, CB's ect if so desired

Ranges and Postitions For Age group A:

Age group A must shoot 10 shots at 25 yards from a bench rest, sand bags recommended
** all shots on same target

Ranges and Positions for Age Group B:

Age group B must shoot 5 shots prone at 25 yards, 5 shots sitting at 25 yards and 5 shots standing at 25 yards with a rest ie; crossed sticks.
** all shots on same target

*Note on shooting distance: sorry if this is a problem for some...hopefully the time alotment for this event will allow everyone to find a place to shoot 25 yards safely

Cost to enter:

NONE, other than your cost incured by purchasing paper plates, postage ect....
SMALL DONATIONS would be accepted to cover the cost of the PO Box used but not necessary, submit with Targets....

*If this goes well the PO box will be a permanent fixture to facilitate future Kids Postal Shoots!!

Deadline To Enter A Target:

All targets to be entered for score must be postmarked no later than June 15th, 2006.

I strongly suggest not mailing Targets in before June 1st, this will help me consolidate scoring of Targets into a two week time frame....thanks

Prizes:

Trophy for the winner of Age Group A
Trophy for the winner of Age Group B

Where To Mail Targets:

To be announced by the end of this week...........

FINAL NOTE: There is a huge alotment of time and huge leniency towards how many Targets are shot to get a "good one". Taking advantage of the "do overs" will increase your childs shooting time and score, thereby accomplishing the purpose of this contest!!!

[color:"red"] GOOD LUCK, BE SAFE AND HAPPY SHOOTING!!!!! [/color]

If you don't mind I would like to donate a Savage 64 FXP scope/rifle combo as prizes. One for each age group. These rifles are left over inventory that I did not sell when I let my FFL expire. I have donated too the adult Postal Matches that were held in the past.

Dude, you're a class act!!!

Roy, sounds like fun, expecting my oldest to do fairly well whether he wins or not.

The little guy, he's big on spray and pray, he just likes the noise, but last time we shot he's getting more interested in where the bullets end up thanks to the old competitive brother thang!

Kid,

If this shoot goes well for the young ones and their .22's then I plan on running a 14 to 19 year old centerfire shoot similar to age group B's rules but with a bit longer yardages soon after this is completed....

Will Kid Jr. fit in that one???

I would hope these youth events could be counted on every year here on the Campfire from now on....I'm gettin' a kick out of it already.....

Yes, he is 15 now and I bought him a .270 last year to use on these Alaska deer. Always a fun time involving the kids, eh?

To update the prizes situation for this youth event....

Allen in Alaska has donated two scoped Savage 64FXP's one for each age group winner....again awesome donation Allen!

TobyJoeTruby has also donated a Texas Audad hunt to the winner of age group B!!!!!!!!The details of the hunt have been discussed and all age 11 thru 13 year old competitors are eligable to win....

Before this goes any further I would like to take an example from JJ's African Poatal Shoot...This concerns everyone interested in this youth event...

The stakes are getting high and I think it would be a good idea if we impossed a small limit on who can enter...

Say... all are eligable to enter their kids if they are members of the Campfire prior to....the day the event was announced...? Or maybe a Campfire registration date limit of May 1st...?

Thoughts...?

I really don't want to change rules or exclude anyone at all but with some valuable prizes I would hate to see this event taken advantage of...

If the concenus is there are no worries then we will leave it as is...Please put your two cents in...I'm listening.

The hunt will be for a female Audad. Once again, I am not trying to out do anyone. This is a great hunt for a young, or first time hunter. We will see alot of animals, and it is NOT IN A HIGH FENCE, it is all FREE RANGE. I know it is a long ways to Tx, for some of the contestants of the shoot, maybe we can post a donation thread to cover traveling expenses for the winner? This is a great way to get kids into hunting and shooting, I wish I had something to offer the younger age group.

Gentlemen,

Please enter my son, 8 in Group A. He thinks nicknames are "stupid" LMAO. But it did give me an opportunity to discuss not sharing information with strangers. We'll work on the nickname. For now, call him "Bug".

Allen and Toby Joe ... WOW. You guys are incredible. I'll try to think of some way to contribute to the event.

BP....As I see it you have three options...

1. have your son shoot the match according to age group B's rules AND get the target in the mail BEFORE he turns 14 on the 4th of June....he would be 13 when he shoots the target.

Or...

2. Pass on the little kids stuff and go for the match I will run later this summer for 14 to 19 year olds...I got an inside scoop that one of the prizes for that event will also be very cool....

Or....

3. shoot both matches, this .22 rimfire match and the age 14 to 19 Centerfire match later on, according to the rules and have a BLAST doing them....lucky kid...

All this is for the young 'uns...there are too many influences out there in the world keeping them away from shooting and hunting...I'm gonna do what ever I can do to head that off at the pass....!!
