Read some interesting thoughts from a Japanese historian on the atomic bombs and their role in the surrender of Japan. He believes that Hiroshima and Nagasaki did greatly impact the Japanese leadership's decision to seek surrender terms. However, he also thinks that the entry of the Soviet Union into the Pacific Theater was equally responsible. (Remember, Russia officially declared war on Japan on Aug. 9, 1945.) The Russian offensive into Manchuko (the puppet state that Japan established in China) caught the Japanese off-guard and they were ill-prepared to deal with such an attack. It seems safe to say that Stalin was prepared to push across China, move onto the Korean peninsula, and, ultimately, invade the Japanese Home Islands. Can you imagine the Red Army on the Home Islands, if even for a brief time?

Pesident Truman was under alot of pressure to use one of the bombs as a demonstration.Alot of people thought dropping one on a city was barbaric. All you have to do is look at the fire bomb raid on Tokyo. To come up with a new definition of barbarity. All things considered. There was only enough material to make two bombs.I think Truman got it right. It might not be pretty. But then again if not for Truman. I might not be here. There were projected American casualties of 500000 if it came to an invasion of the home islands. God bless Harry S. Truman.

"Moreover, the enemy has begun to employ a new and most cruel bomb, the power of which to do damage is, indeed, incalculable, taking the toll of many innocent lives. Should we continue to fight, it would not only result in an ultimate collapse and obliteration of the Japanese nation, but also it would lead to the total extinction of human civilization." - Emperor Hirohito, Imperial Surrender Broadcast

Funny how Japan's militaristic society got whooped by a bunch of plow-boys who grew up looking at the ass-end of a mule. Those plow boys are 2% of our population, but make up over half our spec ops today. Underestimating a plowboy is a good way to get your ass kicked.

Pesident Truman was under alot of pressure to use one of the bombs... Yep, especially after spending 20 billion taxpayers dollars on the Manhatten Project.

Proud to say that my Grandfather was an Officer aboard the U.S.S. Missouri when that surrender was signed.

Yep, they screwed with the wrong bunch of redneck bastids and got the short end of the stick. Good thing it was then and not now.
We may know the time Ben Carson lied, but does anyone know the time Hillary Clinton told the truth?
