I am selling a few guns to build a repeating 338Edge and haven't bought anything yet so asking for some input please. My first plans was to pick up a SS Sendero in a rum and use the action and the hs stock. A decent sendero will run $800-$1000, my question is the action on the sendero any different than the action on the sps stainless? I have seen them new for around $600, could pull the barrel and stock off and maybe get $100-150 out of it. I have also thought of going with a custom action like surgeon, stiller, or defiance and wouldn't have to worry about the truing of them. Not sure which one I will be money and time ahead on. All input will help thanks.

Any Ultra action is fine, but I'd get it opened for a 2.9XX magazine.

I built mine on a single shot Bat, as I didn't want to fret over OAL, or the extra expense of bottom metal. I figgered I'd never be in a tight enough jam where a fast second shot couldn't be handled going single feed.

Mines built by Carlock on a Bat repeater, 30" Hart barrel, HS precision stock, Jewel trigger.

You shooting 300gr SMK? If so whats your COAL?

In the single shot I have now I think im going 3.7X? close to 3.8 but its on a savage action and don't believe I can make it a repeater unless seating them way deep, that's why its for sale. Shoots great but want a repeater.

I'm shooting the 300 SMK at 3.785" in a Wyatt box. 91 grains of H1000, 215M, Remington brass @ 2830 if you're interested. Here's a couple groups; the paper one at 500 and the plate at 800.

My first .338 Edge was built on a Savage. To use it as a repeater with the 300 SMK the bullets would have been seated past the ogive into the case. In any event, the throat on that one was cut for a COL of 4.00" and I shot it as a single-shot.

like hillbillybear said I would just call Shawn and be done with going around in circles trying to decide which way to go , him and his dad have made their living on building 338 edges. Leave a message they will call you back.

Mine started as a 300 RUM Sendero and added a Wyatts Box.

This caliber is a hard hitting hammer! You should enjoy the project quite a bit.

I'd just go 338 ultra with a 28 inch barrel. After working with a couple different Edge's and several 338 ultras there just isn't much gain to neck up to edge.I have seen The Ultra and Edge run neck and neck with really no gain.If you want a nice step up go 338 Lapua Improved or 338-378 they have a nice gain on the Edge or ultra.Edge and Ultra 2800-2875 with 300 gr 338 Lap imp and 338-378 2950-3,050 fps

or just consider the 300 ultra with the 230 bergers...there isnt a animal alive who could tell the difference between a edge a 338 ultra or a 300 ultra with the 230's.

I had Shawn build me a 338 Laupa on a M-700 RUM action and I reused the HS Precision stock. I used the Seekin's bottom metal with 5 shot detachable box magazine and can load and feed with a 3.9" COAL

I have two edges one on a sendero with Wyatt box and one on a stiller predator with Wyatt detachable Wyatt box mag 30" barrels on bolth and I love the stiller the sendero is going to my fatherinlaw . I also have worked with 338 rum and in my experience the edge is the way to go. And a custom action is a lot less work and worry

800 to 1,000 for a donor action puts you in the custom action grade...

Why not start there ?

Sturgeon action, AI bottom metal with a magazine, and a Mc Stock.... plus a Krieger barrel...

If one wants to seat the bullet farther out say to 3.9" and have a repeater the n the Rem 700 is the easier way to go because they are simpler to move the bolt throw stop on and is th reason that I went with the M -700
