Bought this several years ago with the tags hanging from a collector. I sure love the feature of not having to palm fish and to date I found it really only necessary on salt water species that weigh 10 pounds and up. Some of my friends who're lucky enough to live near salt water wear leather gloves to keep from wearing out the palm of their hands. Have caught so few fresh water fish that were big enough to need an anti reverse reel, I'm thinking will I ever need this little jewel enough to make it worth what I dumped into it. Anyone know when Fin Nor stopped making this type of reel ??? Or what the market will take for selling it ?

I'm kind of a Fin Nor addict of sorts but only with spinning reels. I have quite a few and enough spare parts to build several more. I have only the 12A reels which I have caught 8 foot lemon sharks on 15lb mono after an hour of drag screaming smoken hot runs. But I digress!

Fin Nor made all the prototypes in the USA for a couple years. Any Fin Nor reel made that says Made in the USA is an exceptional value. After the prototype period they were mass produced in Bangladesh. That production lasted until about 1998 or so? That is when Cape fear bought the Fin Nor company. Their production moved to Korea with a new high bearing count and more "modern" production. That was likely the beginning of the end for the Fin Nor Product. The Korean production was all garbage and fell apart with countless people screaming that the best reels made were now Junk. The Korean reel production was only made for about 22 months when production ended in dismal failure.

In June of 2005 Zebco, the owners of VanStaal, and Quantum reels bought the Fin Nor company from Cape Fear. They should be putting out a modernized version of the Ahab fishing reel line up this year. I was already able to get some spare parts of new production from them made in a "pacific rim" country where the remainder of the line will also be produced.

So in short sell that bugger on Ebay quick, before the masses of people all figure out that the FinNor product will be back on the market this year. Look up sales history for FinNor reels on Ebay and you will see what they others like yours have sold for recently.

If it says made in the USA its worth a whole lot more then Bangladesh, and if it was made in Korea ........good luck!

Just as a side note the Bangladesh company making the reels was also set up originally as a parts "job shop" for the German auto industry. Their quality control was the best in the world during the production there. My Bangladesh manufactured Reels are the best spinning reels I have ever used in my life! They are well over 20 years old and seem as if they were pulled out of the box brand new today!

Much thanks....The info was very helpful. Just inspected it and there's nothing regarding mfg. geography, unless it's under the backing which is still on. May need to take it apart and/or call the guy(friend) that sold it to me.

I see that the other anti reverse reels on the market (new) sell for a good -excellent fly rod or more...hmmmmm
