I picked up my new Southern Precision rifle today. Greg took some pictures and may put them up on his site.

Greg has built a few rifles for me and they are AWESOME! He knows is stuff and is a great guy to boot.

Here are the rifle specs:

Ruger 77 MK/II stainless action
308 Winchester
Bartlein #3 contour
11.25 twist
20" barrel
McMillan Classic (50% Medium Blue/50% Purple)
Timney Trigger adjusted to 2 lbs.

Is anyone else shooting semi heavy short barreled rifles for deer hunting?

I'm planning on trying some 150 grain bullets first.

Let me try and figure out how on this Apple computer. I used to on my old computer; however, this one is different.

Well I suppose semi-heavy is subjective, though I have all the parts together to box up and send to the smith on a very similair build.

I've got:
Remington 700 (30-06)
Brux #3 10 twist in 30 cal - shooting for 22"
McMillan MR in molded in forest camo
Williams bottom metal BDL
S&K rings/bases
Zeiss 3x9x40 zplex

I'd call it more of a middleweight or a super middleweight. Just sort of an average weight/length/caliber that works on everything.
If I can get everything back in time for deer season I will likely use it. If not a 7-08 with similar stats will fit-the-bill.

I've got an LTR w illuminated reticle LRT 3.5-10x40 M1 that puts Fed PowerShok 150s into .5s and Fed TB 165s in .7s. Only used latter on WT so far. Straight down. Pretty sure any 150 not FMJ would kill Florida deer and anywhere else in Del Norte in the same manner.
