Not a 308 but a 243 so I can speak of the overall virtue of the rifle and you can figure the 308. My 243 is a very nicely finished rifle and the stock treatment is well executed. As to shooting my 243 is good for 1 1/2 inches at 100 yds with a number of loads ie I didn't spend a lot of effort trying to find a load to hunt with. The little gun is a pleasure to hunt with and carry. Mine wears a 2-7x33 Leupold for a light pkg. I have only shot one deer with mines doe at about 200 yds but it really is a handy rifle and easy to maneuver in a tree stand. A 308 would likewise make a nice rig and would up the game capabilities to game up to elk size.

I had one and hunted with it for years. Mine was the tang safety model. Really handy in woods/heavier cover. Never had any mechanical issue with it. Average accuracy, not a tack driver by any means. Maybe 3" average 100 groups with most factory loads. A bit loud with the short barrel and while I might have just imagined it the kick was a bit stout off the bench. Never noticed it in the woods.

.

I've owned/shot/hunted with several M77RSI's, all tang safety models - one .30-06, two .250 Savage's, & three .308's.

All three .308's had mediocre accuracy (3"-4"), the two .250's quite a bit better (2-1/2" avg), and the .30-06 shot under MOA (3/4", actually). (all were targeted @ 100yds with 5-shot groups & Leupold 4x scopes.)

I have one. It wasn't too accurate until I had the action bedded and the barrel floated. Now it shoots great especially with 150 Speer Mag Tips. The barrel is pencil thin so it heats up fast from the bench. Very handy rifle at 38" OAL.

Have a MKII RSI in .308. Shoots my load into about 1.25" which is plenty good for the woods I hunt in. Like Milwroad said fairly loud and recoil is noticable from the bench but not in the field. By far my favorite woods rifle. Very handy and light.

Not a 308 but I have a Lipseys Limited (1 of 260)
Ruger MKII RSI in 7mm-08 stainless Handy,not heavy,1 1/2 in. @ 100
with Remington factory 140 gr. Cor-lokts.
But the biggest plus with these guns is the Fullstocks
Every time I take it with my 2 WBY Mark V`S TO the shooting
range whoever is their will always ask to look at ,hold the RSI
Never my MARK V`s.
I was looking for a WBY Mark V stainless Carbine in 308 or 7mm-08
When I traded for the RSI.
If you are into Ruger`s they are the sh#t.

I've had three M77 RSI's, two tang safeties (250 Savage and 7x57) and one M77 MKII (308 Win).

The 308 Win was far and away the best shooter of the bunch. But I did bed the entire barrel and action. Easily got 3/4" and better groups. Killed my biggest whitetail with a Speer Hotcore 150... he was right at 240 lbs on the hoof.

Always liked them and when I saw they were being discontinued I picked one up.

Overall it preforms as expected, 1.25- 1.5" at 100. Was not expecting bench rifle accuracy out of a full stocked thin barrel, but it is plenty accurate enough for it's intent, a fast handling nice woods rifle.

I have had two in 308win. One was a tang safety and was the nicer of the 2 and consistently shot 150 BT/AB around 1.25" and was smooth and well finished.
Took a lope one year:

Also had one in Hawkeye guise for a bit as well. A fella on here now puts it to good use each fall.

Great handling rifles - but plenty of muzzle flash and blast.
