Been years since I had to buy any traps. Run 50% snares usually, and 220's in trials along with water pocket/pvc sets.

Gonna invest in some newfangled dog proof traps, there are a bunch of different models now....which ones are the best?? Two-way trigger important??

Thanks.

I have the orginial lil griz, duke dps, and coon daggers. Of those, only the daggers have a 2 way trigger. Of the ones I have, I like the original lil griz the best. It is now marked as the sterling griz, and is more expensive than other brands....but much cheaper than what it was before all the competition came out.

You will catch plenty off coon fine with a one way trigger and have a dog proof trap (will catch feral cats). With a 2 way trigger, a small dog could get its paw in there and push down, and get caught.

The main reason I don't like the 2 way triggers is they don't work with my baiting system. I always put a large marsh mallow under the trigger. It has to compress to fit, and therefore exerts upward pressure on the trigger....enough to cause a 2 way trigger to fire. Which is what happened with my daggers on the line. Eventually I stopped putting them out. You can fit more griz in a 5 gallon bucket anyway.

I got some of the new bridgers, they look to be really well built, and have strong springs.

I tried Duke DP's at the end of last season and can't wait to use them from here out. Absolutely no chew outs with these puppies. Personally , I find the one way trigger another appealing feature since this is what makes them Dog Proof. Used the cheapest dry cat food I could find at the Dollar General store for bait. With 6 traps out I caught 5 coons in 5 nights. 4 of them in the same trap on consecutive nights.I'm sold on them. Best of luck to you and may your trap chains jingle!

I'll second the Duke DP's.
